Rollcage
Rollcage
It looks like I am going to have to go with the roll bar and rear supports. The NHRA still hasn't agreed to make the roll bar with halo option official. Jim D. talked to the owner of Raceway Park in Jersey about it. We where told that unless NHRA makes a written statement on this, he would not permit the cage substitute at his track. Same story I got from the head of Tech at Ennis in the Dallas area.
Since I run at more than just FFW events, I really don't want to run all over the country arguing over the legalities of a cage. For those that are not in a hurry to get caged, I would wait a bit to see if the ruling will be allowed. It does look as if they will allow it, just not in the next week or two. I had to make my choice yesterday....
Sorry if my post the other day created confusion. It was not meant to create problems. I really believed the deal was official.
It's not over yet....it just isn't going to happen in time for my cage.

Who is doing your cage>??? Someone local to you or are you having the same guy do it that JDM uses>??? This is something I will have to look into doing over next winter. I have someone local to me(BIG NAME that everyone has heard of) but they have never done a Lightning before. So I don't know what to do. Goodluck with it and be sure to post some pics for us.

Rocks, don't regret doing the rear bars. Roll bars/cages are for more than just driver protection. A good design will improve chassis strength and performance. The rear bars will reduce chassis flex considerably, and will improve your truck's 60ft and overall ET. The rear bars can be done in a manner that doesn't detract from the truck's useability (is that a word?). My rear bars come out low in the window, and can only be seen from directly behind the truck. I also did my setup so that my truck is 100 % waterproof and it does not leak a drop of water, even in heavy rainstorms. Do it right, and you'll have no regrets.
Thanks Sal,
I guess I was a bit excited about the "stealth" look. I am looking forward to some of the benefits you mentioned.
The tech at FFW still has not rescended what he said about the issue. I suppose he can allow what he wants in FFW, but I am not sure how that will apply when the track owners won't allow it.
I know I am not willing to be distracted by this whole situation anymore. Screwing around with running tens the first 3 races has cost me alot of needed points. I now find myself playing catch up.
The rear supports don't really look bad, it just gives it away that your driving a fast truck...LOL.

There are also several cage builders in the Texas area, where I live. The Jersey situation worked for my schedule since I was going to be there for FFW anyway.
