Expedition Overhead Console Electronics Q

Hi,
Sorry if this has been covered, but I have been unable to locate an answer...

Does anyone know if the wiring for the electronic display in the expedition overhead console and the Lightning (2001+) overhead console are compatible (plug & play), or at least close?

I have searched here, and on FTW, and have found information on the wiring for swapping an Explorer overhead console, but not an Expedition.

Thanks for your time,
--Michael

Temp guage/compass is the same.

Dome light is the same connector, but the leads are opposite. A simple cut and swap will get-er-done.

Bringin this one back from the dead.

Zbornac, what leads in the plug are different? I have my expy overhead in front of me, and I see 2 blue wires going in one side, a black one in the middle, and 2 green ones going in the other side. My L domelight plug has a green with a brown stripe on one side, a black in the middle, and a blue with a strip (can't remember the color) on the other side. Which wires do I swap in the connector? Thanks
Grim

If I remember correctly, the power and ground wires are reversed in the overhead console. I switched them on the console side of things to keep it simple. I believe I have a pic back at home and I'll get it to you tonight. Hit me with an email to remind me if you want.

I'd love to know if anyone has put an Expy overhead console in the Lightning and gotten the A/C and Heat controls to work. I'd like to do this swap to free up the dash for gauges. Anyone done this?

If I ever get around to it thats my next project. I already have the console up there and the dash molded for my 8" LCD. When i get the funds for the the car pc they will be moved up there.

Tampa - that looks great! But I'm interested in putting 3 gauges in the dash where the AC controls are, if I can get those controls to work in an overhead console. Cody - please keep us posted on this mod. I really, really want to do this but feel that I don't have the expertise.

From what I remember from by brother in law's Expy, the overhead console AC controls are not the same as the ones in our dash. Temp is the same, but I recall that the **** with the floor/dash/defrost etc. settings is different on the Expy model.

Yes, the overhead console AC controls can be made to work. I have not done this, but know others who have. I believe it involved running vacuum lines and electrical lines up there, but that is the extent of my knowledge on that.

Grim, drop me an email.

Z, you have mail.

I have done some search again (research) on running the a/c controls up top. I have concluded that I will have to do a write up during the installation. That will explain everything. Also, my expy console has "Vent" switches. I am gonna blank out my window switches on the door, and use the overhead switches for the side windows. I am also running all of my nitrous wiring up top to be hidden in the sunglass holder. That way, all of my shtuff will be hidden.

Ejection seat for when the wife opens her mouth.

Ones for connected two temp sensors to my water/trans temp gauge. I have no plans for the 2nd switch yet.

How about an air freshner switch, Tampa? And no need for momentary for you, make it constant on.
