Blaster -

My comments where not directed at Rob at all, I was refering to the truck thats the subject of the post. The only reason I could not see doing the heads and cams would be due to a financial issue but other then that WHY NOT? If I blow my motor up I will just wait till I have the money to do it all at once, but thats just me. I do realize that some may not in the same postion as I am financially.

And btw,

From what I have seen its about 70-100hp/70-100trq with a decent set of heads and cams on a built short block at similar boost levels. I also dont think that heads and cams cost 4K alone but I could be wrong. I also have no fear of working on my vehicle and have done all my mods myself with the help of some friends. If I have to swap motors and transmissions I will also do that myself. It's not rocket science

I am not by any means putting any one down with regards to the use of stock heads / cams on built short block, I am mearly stating if I was going to go that far I would wait and do it ALL if at all possible.

Bob

Last time I checked, a decent set of heads for our trucks were in the 2300 range?? **I just checked JDM's Website and their heads are 2995.**

Plus 1100, actually about $1,045 for Cams, that's OVER 4k right there.

Don't forget a new tune....viola!! 4K+.

Hold your applause.

It's cool, I didn't say you were, I was just suggesting reasons as to why I personally haven't done it, and why I think Rob hasn't.

Both of us are looking to enjoy our trucks without breaking the bank.

who in the hell is selling cams for 1045 and is that all you get...just two cams??

There has to be a kit involved or something for that price

Yeah, it's the kit.

Cams, retainers, valve springs, spacers, and sprockets. Of course if you get the heads then you will spend a little less on the cams.

I'm just saying, it's not hard to get to 4k with a nice head and cam setup.

Thanks Bob, thanks Blaster.

To tell you the truth when we were doing it, and I checked,
I also found out Heads and Cams were another 4K
My entire Motor was rebuilt from head to toe for 4K, the other 3K I spent was for Headers, Cats, Upper, Maf, Injectors, Labor, Tuning, etc.... I just couldn't swing another 4K.

Looking back I still don't think I HAD TO have them, but as we are finding out there is A LOT more HP to be had with that Combo, Gator has clearly out classed me and the SOB has a good 80- 100 HP over me "off spray", as a result of his Heads, and Cams. @$%@$^%@$%@$

Charles Sal and myself have done A LOT of testing and comparing
behind the scene, I can tell you the problem is not really the Head
itself, (or the cams, although obviously they both help) but it is a component of the head, AND for a mere hundred or two invested, I COULD HAVE claimed a lot more HP. Unfortunately it is something
we didn't ever think would be an issue, but now all test prove it to be a problem, FOR THE BOOST LEVELS I'M RUNNING.

We still may make this change, Charles is working on having some special tools made as we speak "to possibly attempt it"?

But as said, I did end up with a Tire Ripping Boost Screaming Street Monster, once we finish the N20 tuning, I should be pretty close to having 600HP available to me 24/7, and thats all I ever ask for. FOR NOW

In the mean time having dam near 500/600 on my street tune IMO is MORE than you can possibly use on the street anyway and I'm happy as schitt with it : o ) ...

That sounds like a pretty good deal. What cams and porting does that include?

I've been looking around, at modmax, foxlake, a little bit of everything. At this point I'm still holding out for a whipple or another power adder though, as you know my opinion on the KB.

Rob, I'm not far behind you. I will say that I think I could handle more than 500 Rwhp on the F1's, I'm pretty close as is. It's been my goal to prove that the F1 is a hell of a tire, I'm gettin there, although rumor has it MT displayed an 18" DR at bradenton, I will be calling about that today.

Hmm... component of the head. Are you talking about valves? Or is there a restrictive casting mark somewhere? Do tell...

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the guys at Krazy Koncepts said they have mastered taking the cab off and can get it off in 30 minutes.
