How many have went with a extended warr'?
My warr' on my 02 will be ending soon, the years are what is getting me because I only have 20,000 miles on my truck. I went to check on a extended warr' and they said I could get a 4 year 60,000 mile warr' for around $1,300 bucks. From what all you get with it, it's a little better than the factory warr'. It sure would come in handy if something goes wrong in the next few years. The one thing that has me 2nd guessing getting it is some of the mods on my truck, they could be a-holes about it and not want to cover some things. They said I could cancel it any time and get the remainder of my money back. But if I did have a problem with them not wanting to cover something a year or two from now,you just get the remainder of the warr' money back, not all of it.Do you guys think I should get it or just keep my money and hope nothing goes south on my truck in the next few years?Have any of you guys got the extended warr' and it saved you some big $$$$ on a problem?
i would need to know your mods before i said "go for it dude". if you want to throw lots of boost at it, beat on it hard, and then expect the warranty to cover a blown motor, well then don't get it and help spare other folks increased premiums
i have seen it go both ways. I opted not to get an extended warranty on my L mainly b/c of its low miles and planned mods. now another car in the garage I did get an extended warranty on and it paid for itself right off the bat-- 2yr extended for $500 covered an $800+ A/C repair minus 100 deductible and I came out way ahead with still more months to go. deciding factor there was it was a used vehicle with 30k miles, test driven in very cold conditions, and i was kind of leary that it had set on the lot for so long....
most of these warranties carry a $$$ decuctible per incident. give that a look. never accept the 1st price they give you on an extended warranty if it is a dealership, or if there is any room to haggle. on two occasions i've seen dealers sell warranties for half the original asking price. there is a big markup in it for them.
also, it depends on whether you can afford the $$$$ for warranty now vs the potentially larger expense later. if you think a blown tranny is going to put you in a world of hurt 3 yrs from now, maybe it's worth it. i will tell you that some places will honor an extended warranty and others won't. before you settle on one, make sure wherever your chosen garage/dealer will work with that chosen company.
just saw you have a cobra too, so i say no to the warranty, think of what you can buy with the $1300 for either of those. if you had an L and a Pinto, then i might would say differently

When I bought my 2001 L about a year ago I got the extended warranty and I'm glad I did. One week later it spit a plug and 2 weeks after that I noticed the passenger side head gasket was leaking, all with less than 30k on the truck. Everything was paid for by ford except the deductible and I did get the free rental when it was in the shop. So mine has already paid for itself and I can start modding. Also, from what I have read if you finance the extended warranty and cancel it later on, they apply the cash back to the loan, you won't get it.
Make sure any waranty you get is from Ford and not some fly by night insurance company that makes millions by selling warrantees and going out of business so they dont have to pay. Then reopen under new name...
Also keep in mind that warrantees are REALLY HIGH PROFIT items ...
Shop the hell out of it before you buy

I bought an extended warrenty when I bought my 99.
I had the dealer change the plugs to some TR6.
When my right head spit a plug (about 1 week after I had the dealer check the plugs for loose),
The warrenty was telling me , they would not cover because, the ORIGINAL plugs were not in it. Not the same kind but the actual original plugs.
My service manager , who had done the plug job. got the head changed. I never did get all the details.

Thanks guys, I guess I better shop around a little more. The dealer where I bought my truck is who gave me that price, so I might try a get him to come down a little more on the price. I never would buy a warr' from one of those fly by night places, if I wanted to waste my $$$ i'd wipe my butt with it before i'd give it to them!!
All true statements above. Make sure you go with a FORD warranty, and shop around. Was quoted from 800-1300. Also, check the plan for "non moving part" clauses. A spark plug is a non-moving part (well, until they fly, but you know what I mean). Some 'warranties' wont cover the plugs on Lightnings, so read all fine print.

Yes make sure you get it from Ford or a GOOD reputable warranty company. There are SO many out there that SCREW their customers. Being in the auto repair business I see it often. They will make any excuse not to cover something.
Speaking of warranties, I need to take my Lightning in, it has some weird rough idle. I can't figure out why.

Read the fine print , I bought an extened warranty on a 99L
from the dealer at purchase. the motor blew 200 miles after
i bought it. 2 days. the warranty only covered internaly lubercated
parts. But in the fine print it said dose not cover catys 4500
motor or any ford svt. they wanted 700.00 to tear it down to see
is the warrenty would cover it. after 2 two days of phone calls
let me talk to your boss, whos your boss ect. i told the dealership manager, you sold me a fraudulent warrenty, im not paying for it
fix it or talk to my lawyer(witch i dont have) im now enjoying my
new long block for 108.00 deductible. READ THE FINE PRINT!
