Engine removal procedure

How do I go about pulling the engine from my 2001 Lightning? Do I need to remove the entire cab to do this? I want to pull the motor and replace the rods/pistons before I blow it up. At the same time, I'll install some longtubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No you don't have to. You can do it the traditional way. Some around here claim they can even pull it w/o removing the hood.

The engine comes right out with the hood still attached. I usually unhook the supports and hold it open with a 2x4 but I've seen it done by just pushing up on the hood while clearing the radiator support.
Just pull the fan/rad, unbolt it and pop it out.

You make it sound easy! I have the service CD and have done this just about 8 or 9 tims now. Not as easy as that! I even take the top of the engine off first as stated in the service CD and is tight coming out.

With the radiator removed you only have about 1.5" of clearance.

Peace,

Suavy

Why bother to try>??? So you have something to brag about>??? 4 bolts, 1 wire and the squirter lines and it is out of the way. Much more light in there and SO MUCH more room. I don't understand. -Mat-
