1999 or 2003 for the money??
I think the SRT looks good from the side and back, but the front bumper is frekkin' HUGE! It looks like you could park a ricer on it's front end if you stood it straight up on it's bumper! I love the look of Lightnings and I would still pick one over the SRT. But if I had the big $$$$ and could have a nice collection of vehicles, and after buying a couple more Lightnings and Cobras.I would buy one in a heart beat, because they are a d@mn good looking truck, "except for the HUGE BUMPER". If they could shave some off of the bottom right under the driving lights that would help big time.I would love to have all that power of a Viper motor with the stick shift, that would be a blast to drive!

Assuming the body is straight, etc, etc,
No brainer. Go 99' then go built motor and KB or turbo. Looks the same, will be no problem as a daily driver, cost will be similar, but you'll have a 10 second truck! You might have enough left over for the cage too before you hit the '03 price

thanx for all the replys bros im gona go ahead and pick up the 99 this weekened.i cant wait to add some mods to it..well i always said id never buy a ford but looks like im part of the family now..couldnt help it once i saw the lighting..
If I were you, since you seem to have the cash for the built motor, etc., push the limits on the stock block. You never know, it may handle all you need. There are people kissing the 10's without ever removing the valve covers. Good luck and enjoy.

You can honestly say truck A looks better than truck B…….
Absolutely, the Lightning looks better then the SRT-10. Not that the SRT-10 is ugly it just doesn’t have the character or performance look of the Lightning.
The SRT-10 looks like some heavy duty hauling truck, has the big rig looking front end, very deceiving, because we all know it can’t haul much of anything and it can’t tow anything. The Lightning has the look of speed, of which it has, it has a look of slickness where it could run circles around the SRT-10.
So, not only does the Lightning look better, it can haul more, it can tow more, it cost much less and stock vs. stock it will beat the SRT-10 in the Ľ mile the majority of the time…

That is interesting, you all brought up good points. I think the Lightning looks plain and the srt looks more sporty and mean. But that is just me. I also think that if the 3rd gen lightning did come out it would look more like the srt than the old lightning, and I would have probably bought that instead. Also being the only person here to own both stock for stock the srt wins in the 1/4 mile, the only problem with this statement is there are NO stock lightnings in existance. One more thing that is always brought up by my lightning buddies is the shifter, the throws are not as long as every one thinks. They are about the same as on my old 03 cobra. I was just stirring the pot here anyway and will probably sell the srt when the new cobra comes out.
my upstairs neighbor's father won an SRT10 in vegas, brought it to the apartment to show my neighbors...
he looked over my truck, took him for a ride, and he's selling it for a Lightning now.

Same old story, the srt-10 is crap, it's a mistake, an even bigger mistake than the Lightning and yes we have our own problems as well which might have lead you to the srt-10 in the first place, but don't tell us how much better your toe feels once you shot your foot off!
If Dodge redesigned the front of the srt-10, I think I'd like it more.
(Not like how they screwed up the durango!)
How can you be a performance truck enthusiast and not like the srt-10? 500hp Aluminum V-10?
It's like the lightning... Impractical as hell, but fun to drive.
