Question Can we run open headers ?

OK ...I'm a throw back but one of the things I miss with my BOLT is the ability to open up the headers to hear that engine.

In the old days my GTO was fun and with a big cam seemed faster than it really was...and still it was cool.

Does anyone run open headers ? Does anyone have collectors they can open up at the strip ?

How does it effect the performance of the truck..does it hender the performance ?

If I spend $1300 for Dynatechs I want to open them up at the strip but I have the feeling it is a closed system with cat-backs
mufflers, exhaust tips all welded up.

Please advise if you have knowledge of this issue.

search for QTEC and anything posted by TEAMSLS

you'll find what you're looking for, electric cutouts right after the headers.

Open ?

Running open headers will change your tune, possibly in a bad way. I guess you could use a multi-tune chip to run an open header setup, as long as you have one bank on the chip dyno-tuned for that exact application to be safe. I've gone 10.75 @ 127 MPH through the mufflers, all throttle, no bottle, so I'm sticking with my closed exhaust on the street and strip.

This the price of excellent technology...
If we could make the BOLTs run 2 seconds faster
and have the sound of a "electric" racer then is that
progress ?

In my world it is more comforting if more noise equals better performance... I understand the reality of back-pressure..computer tunes... things like that....

But this is drag racing ..outlaw ***** ... violent outbursts of raw horsepower..ya gota admit with all things being equal..a little
sound is more fun.

I'm looking into (manual) or electric cutouts if they don't screw up the performance which I agree is the most important thing.

Can anyone say for sure if it will screw up the computer tune if the cutouts are after the cat-backs ?
