Time For A Little Pick Me Up

I finally bit the bullet and stepped it up a notch or two.

For those that want to know how much Horsepower you pickup running the same amount of boost between a Ported Blower and KB here are my findings. This is on a stock block with stock heads and stock cams.

Both blowers are making 14.5 #'s of boost (according to my POS Autometer gauge). When I added the KB a set of 55# injectors and a SCT MAF were installed. I have a set of 255 fuel pumps but didn't get a chance to install them. It looks like the stockers were up to the task at this point.

The tune used on the Ported Blower was 18 degrees across the board race tune with some Torco in the tank for good measure. That's why the torque numbers are so strong.

The tune on the KB was done today by Dynospeed Racing and it is a street tune with close to the same timing at the top of the gear but only 14 degrees of timing at 3000 rpm hence the lower torque numbers. This is know as slope timing which great for the street to ward off tippin ping and other detonation but will cost you at the track.

Here is the dyno graph of both pulls. The A/F is reading high on the Ported Blower run because it was after the cat.

30 HP is a pretty good jump at this lower boost level.

Out of curiosity what other mods are you running? I was at the dyno today with my new KB and made 481/566. However, I made 21 psi of boost I think a lot of the extra boost was added from the stock manifolds. Im running a 4# lower and a 3.00 upper. I am very, very scared of all that boost.

I'm running a JLP 5# lower 8.75" and a 3.25" upper. If you are running a Metco Lower they are suppose to be a little bigger than normal. So your 4# might be close to my 5#.

I have full exhaust, efan, C&L plenum and intake, PSP FastAir intake and SB throttle body. I already mentioned the injectors and MAF.

We could have probably squeezed a couple of more ponies out it but chose to leave it a little fatter at the top of the gear.

So if the 3.25 makes 14.5-15 lbs of boost, is it safe to assume that the 3.00 would make 17? If that is a safe assumption, is it also feasible that because I am running stock manifolds still, that is creating the extra 4lbs of boost?

The headers and high flow cats should only drop the boost about 1# or 2#'s tops. I would say on the average about a pound.

I think the biggest drop in boost pressure is produced by ported heads and cams.

I was told that the guys running full exhaust with a stock engine, 6# Metco (9.25") and a 3.0" upper are making about 20#'s of boost.

With the 3 1/2 upper pulley you would get about 12.5 psi and with the 3 1/4 pulley you would get 14.5 psi. Thank you, KB

This is what they sent me these #s are with a #4lb lower( 8 5/8)
Hope that helps.... Mine will be on next week cross my fingers hope everything goes well I upgraded SCT MAF 2400...255 JDM FUEL PUMPS....JDM 60 LB injectors.
