An overfull oil pan may lead to oil leakage through the pan, gaskets, and seals. Excessive oil also can contribute to higher pressures and excessive vapors in engine crankcase. If the oil level is extremely high, the rotating crankshaft may strike the oil and cause the engine to labor harder. It can cause the oil to foam which can break down the proprieties of the oil. Oil being hit by the crankshaft can reduce gas mileage and actually lead to premature engine wear.

As was stated before it IS important that engine oil is at the proper level, to low or to high and you can cause very expensive damage to your engine…

Ditto. And I want to make clear that my "six quarts or six ounces" post was directed only to low levels, not to overfilling.

The irony is that this is the edited version. I shudder to think what the first pass looked like.

It WOULD be, but these guys with the 7 qt trucks actually have the Ported Oil Pan mod, so it's about the same difference either way

I just finished changing oil in my 01 and 6 quarts brought it to within 1/8 " of the full mark. This time I went back to 5w30 Mobil 1 compared with 0w20 I used last time to see if it has any effect on the brief cold start up "clatter" that I don't recall getting with the 5w30. We shall see!

Tim and MrGadget. I'm LMAO here. My side hurts. No really, I pulled a muscle right around my ribs and it really hurts. Stop it.

I love threads like these and oh yeah mine takes 6 1/2 quarts.
