Drove up to PSP yesterday....
Drove up to PSP yesterday....
As Always I left a HAPPY camper. I've been going to Sal ever since I bought my lightning, he built my motor and has been the only hand in the engine bay besides mine.
I've been having some issues lately, so I upgraded to the SCT MAF and 255 pumps, but when we retuned for it via mail I was still going lean on top. So Sal and I talked and I decided to make the trip up for a dynotune.
I get to Sals about 9am, left home at 4AM, by 2 o'clock, my truck was running better than it ever has. Turns out the fuel pump relay had gone out, and he found the bolt that my nephew dropped during the MAF install, which somehow fell BEHIND the idler. So once that was fixed it was just a matter of dialing the truck in. Managed to pick up a few ponies in the process too.
One of the conversations that Sal and I had while I was there was how people talk about how expensive dynotunes are, how they spend 10k on the motor but don't want to shell out a couple hundred for the correct tune. But after yesterday it just reaffirms my belief that dynotune is the only way to go. It may cost a few dollars but I have the peace of mind knowing my truck is dialed in and ready to hit the track.
So a huge
to Sal and PSP, he's a class act in my book.

Most tuners do it on a per pull basis with a set rate for the first couple runs or the first hour.
If you have no problems and the tune gets dialed in right away then it's pretty inexpensive.

Glad to hear your truck is running strong!

I agree. I was actually supposed to go get tuned by Sal in person but when I did the calculations because of my location it would have ended up costing me about $1,600 when all was said and done. Wish I lived closer. I dont mind paying the extra few bucks to get tuned by someone who knows what they are doing.. but to shell out about $2000 Canadian for a dyno tune is just not justifiable for me.

If you have a local dyno with internet access and a fax, Sal can dyno tune you anywhere. Just will have to fax him the dyno sheet and he can email the change in the tune.
