tracks and water boxes

went to newly opened track for test n tune this weekend and wow was I disappointed to see that everyone is forced to run through the water box! by this I mean that there are concrete barriers on each side and the middle that actually prevent you from being able to drive around the water. i could barely believe what i was seeing. has anyone else ever been to a track like this? damn my times were crap due to no traction.

i registered my complaints as i hope many other people did so hopefully we can get them to change their setup. just wondering if anyone else has seen such a dumb setup and what you might have done to overcome it. looked like some people were hooking pretty good, i saw some 7 sec (1/8 mile) mustangs running like 1.5 or 1.4 60ft. I guess with slicks they could do a good enough burnout to overcome most of the mess. what about guys running full slicks and skinnies... do they usually roll right through the box, or back into it?

I've experienced the same thing at a local dragway here. There's enough space to drive around the waterbox but the morons hose down the entire area so you're driving through water no matter what.

Thats almost as stupid as my old track where they would yell at you to move up while the guy in front of you was doing a smokey and throwing rubber, water, and pieces of asphalt at your windshield

As for the water, I just go through slow, do my usual low rpm short burnout and somehow always end up with a 1.6 - low 1.7 60ft (but yes I do have slicks)

When ever possible I do of course try and keep my front tires out of the water, and go around if at all possible

You know, they do the same thing here sometimes at HRP. And if you try to go around the waterbox, there's some surly looking punk kid with the hose who refuses to move out of the way so you can get around. Last time I went to the track I just kept rolling and hit him with my side mirror. Next time I went to the line, he moved out of the way.

hrp is usually ok, but at LSR in sealy, there is no way around the box. it is annoying and i have considered getting skinnys just to not have to deal with the wide front tires picking up all that water

I've done that too! This one track I used to go to always has a bunch of morons crowded near the water box near a guardrail so you pretty much have to bump them to get them out of the way so you can drive around. It is like you're invisible, they will not move and of course the officials are oblivious.

it never helps when the ricers drag water from the water box with their rear wheels all the way up to the line.
