Yes and no It is up to a point; I would say up to 500HP it's all in the tune. After that you are way beyond the internals of the stock L motor! I ran the 500HP setup for over 6 months, and it did great. I decided to up things pretty good for an upcoming race. My best guess is it would have made 530~540RWHP SAE It lasted me 3 WOT runs like that before #7 rod broke. No signs of detonation on any of the parts; just a mangled up rod and piston.

Rods

Yeah, the rods will give you trouble. I have Manley's with CP pistons and make over 600 to the rear wheels. the block is a stock 03 with forged internal and have had now problems at all with the block it is as tough as nails.

hey bob, did you sell the supra? What all kind of mods did you have done to it? Was it more fun to drive than the L? By the way, your truck is badass! Especially the engine bay, it is super clean and the black C&L looks real sharp!

I think the motor will last a good amount of time at this power level / tune. The only thing that might get me is a head gasket problem or if I get some bad detonation. I am very concious of what detaontion is and have an excellent ear for it.

I have done alot of reading, watching others make mistakes, and made sure that I have all the supporting hardware to support the airflow demands on this engine. The truck is plenty powerful on the street, more then enough to make the nitto 555r's beg for mercy and walk away from 99% of the "sports" cars running around here.

It is also understood that I am on the edge of the stock connecting rod capacity. I fully accept that, and as I have said in the past its ok if this motor goes, I am willing to take take the risk associated with it. I have a daily driven 11 second truck (on my street tune) that has better drivability then it did when it was stock.

Bob

BigSVT:

I sold the Supra in 8/2003 and it (is/was) the best car I have ever owned. It was converted to a single turbo along with alot of other upgrades and modifications by yours truly and some very good freinds of mine. I miss it everyday and will buy another one when the funds allow it.

Ya what Casey said

I got away with 501/615 for a season or two. Added 25 more n20 HP and got away with it for (4) final hi 11's just before my rebuild.

Oh ya, good ole #7 is always the first to go
Although mine didn't blow
1 more pass AND IT WOULD HAVE

The rev limter is set @ 5700 I think and the shift points are 5350/5400 or there abouts.
