newbie wheel and suspension question!
newbie wheel and suspension question!
Hi all,
I have an agent in the US (TX) looking for a lightning for me ( I live in the UK and prices here are horrific!). Once he has found me a suitable one (2001+ silver or red) he'll be shipping it over to me. Beforehand I would like to buy a set of wheels and some decent suspension for her ready to fit when its delivered. Once again any alloy wheels over 19" cost an absolute fortune in the UK so far better off buying them in the US.
What i'd like to know is the best kind of suspension setup to have with a set of 22" wheels. I will only be using the truck as a weekend toy so practicality isnt really an issue. I wont be using it up drag strips or towing etc either.
I've been reading on various internet sites the people use drop shackles (presuming they are for the rear) and Eibach springs for the front. Is this the knid of combination i'm after, and what kind of drop can/should I expect?
Any advice / pointers would be great! I'm new to the truck scene so pls be gentle!!
Many thanks
Chris

Stay away from the Eibachs. The progressive springs sag and touch each other. I personally run RUSlow 1000# springs in front with Belltech shackles in the rear. I would be willing to bet that you wouldnt need more than about a 2 inch drop all around to fill up the wheel wells with 22s. Other full meal kits include Hotchkis and Roush setups. I would recommend checking out www.timskelton.com as he has some very good information on there to help you make your choices.
