Self install of a double Din radio?

So see my earlier post for why this is happening (theft)

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to install a double DIN radio into our trucks? I've already had two single DIN units in there (so all the plastic cutting is done)

Any parts I would need? The radio shop wants to charge me $250 install + $200 parts and that seems like they were just trying to rape me... Am I missing something?

Should just be a simple install kit. Check the Crutchfield website. They over charge but they have good install info on the site.

Crutchfield says our trucks aren't double DIN (they aren't) so no help there.

German Lightning: Did you have to modify the bezel to install that? That's exactly what I'd like (Kenwood 7015)

Yep - it's modified. Look at the cross-bar between the HVAC ***** and the radio.

If you cut it just right you can fit a double din radio without having to cut much of the trim pannel up.

This is an older pic of my radio but you get the idea.

why aren't you going with a single din again? do you think its more prone to theft? i'm pretty sure the stock opening is 1.5din, and pretty sure that they dont make a lot to fit that hole.. i do recall a pioneer piece that was 1.5 din though. cd player....

My setup...

I had a Pioneer 1-DIN Radio and a Pioneer in-dash 6 disk changer 1-DIN.

So my openning is already cut up. They no longer make the in-dash 6, so I was looking at other options. The Kenwood 7015 looks really nice and I love the DVD/MP3 capabilities.

Not required, just would be nice.

You can fit it if you dremmel out some plastic. I have seen it done a few times, looks great with the right HU.

Yes, of course!!! It was a little bit tricky, but not hard to do!!!
Behind the stock radio is a clamp, you have to deinstall it, too!!!
