Lightning alignment specs. Do you

use ford's L specss or owner preferred as found in "search"? Why? Do you know if dealers will do "L owner preferred specs"? Get a 4 way, not just front end alignment? Temporarily having spare on right rear adversely affect getting proper alignment? Thanks for looking and the help!

i just use the ford L specs.

fyi there is nothing to align in the rear, it is a solid axle. you can only get a front end alignment, and if somebody tries to sell you a 4-wheel alignment, they are just suckering you out of some more money.

as far as the spare, i don't think it should matter, but i am not sure. i wouldn't try it though.

thanks, Brain for reply.

Right about solid axle, so that should confirm spare shouldn't make any difference? Same outside diameter of wheel and tire as L rims?

So there's nothing that can be done to help the uneven rear tire wear I'm getting?

My rear tires are wearing oddly, sort of like feathering, on the inner tread strips on both sides.

From NLOC web site. hope this helps. use the preferred. it's what I've got my set to and haven't had a problem.

I'm in the process of installing the Roush suspension kit on my '04 L and after some brief searching on the boards, i have come across these #s. Just not sure which to go with. Leaning towards the Preferred specs. Any suggestions?

Roush website FAQ (F-150):
Caster L & R 5.2 min & 7.2 max
Camber L & R -1.0 min & 0.4 max
Toe L & R -0.10 min & 0.16 max

L Owner Preferred:
Caster L. 6.7
Caster R. 7.2
Camber L. -0.5
Camber R. -0.5
Toe L. -0.05
Toe R. -0.05

Stock L specs:
Caster L. 6.9 +/- 1.0
Caster R. 7.4 +/- 1.0
Camber L. -0.5 +/- 0.7
Camber R. -0.5 +/- 0.7
Toe L. -0.05 +/- 0.15
Toe R. -0/05 +/- 0.15

This is a crazy theory, but is the rear axle at a slight angle in the back to improve cornering? I've heard that some road racers do this?

Maybe something in the back is bent or twisted. Frame Or suspension ect.

One cam bolt adjusts caster, one adjusts camber (although the adjustments are interrelated).

That makes no sense at all. Are you sure that the wear is from being on the rear? Are you sure that the fronts weren't rotated back there at some point?

Tim, though this is off topic

I'd like to know the brand, model, price and source of those beautiful wheels, if you don't mind. Since I started this thread, hope it's ok that I hijack a little. In market for 20" wheels and tires, not finding hardly anything in silver. Seems everything is in chrome. Looks like yours are 20's with what width?

Now back to your regular programming. What advantage to Preferred alignment compared to standard L?

Thanks!

Yeah, that's very possible. I just got the truck a couple of months ago and I don't know the rotation history of the tires.

Thanks Tim

Please tell me what advantage the

"L owner preferred alignment specs"? No one has said why they chose preferred? Thanks, so I won't bump this thread.

There is actually a third set ... Twistie Drivers Preferred.

More Caster improves the "centering" at high speed.
More Camber improves cornering (up to a point. (Back
in the early 30's they had had race cars that had 25 DEGREES
of negative camber!)
Positive TOE out improves how your truck "turns in" at
corners (since the wheel is already facing that way, you see!)

That's all I've learned about it.

You can find them all posted here ... Shop Manuals

Learn about it HERE
