Review and imagery of intercooler cleaning (dial up warning)

Gang,

The gray days of winter are finally breaking here so the majority of the day was spent rubbing on the truck. Items accomplished:

1. Supercharger R&R
2. Intercooler cleaning
3. Miscellaneous port matching
4. Prime, paint, install C&L upper intake

Prior to beginning the evolution, several images of both sides of the intake are were taken just in case Mr. Murphy decided to visit.

The supercharger was removed with the upper intake intact. Took about 30 minutes taking my time. The rotors had a light coat of oil film on them and that didn't/doesn't bother me. The rotors were in great shape. No flaking whatsoever. Good deal

The intercooler was flat out nasty. Images listed below. A Home Depot oil seperator was used since 250 miles and replaced by an L&S unit last September. This isn't intended as a dig toward Vince or his product. The Home Depot seperator isn't very effective.

The intercooler valley was surprisingly clean. Just a little bit of oil in the very bottom.

Painting the C&L upper intake was straightforward. Prime, seal, paint. It was sunny and windy here so the job was done in mother nature's ventilated area. Results were pretty good.

A neighbor stopped by to shoot the sh.t and asked WTF that black hunk o metal was on the tailgate. Told him it is what howls like a banshee when I'm passing your azz in the morning. LOL

A couple of items that make cleaning A LOT easier:

Four 1/2" vacuum bypass caps for the intercooler itself and the metal lines leading to the reservoir. Minimizes coolant loss BIG time.

Wobble extensions. Bought a four pack of various lenghts at AutoZone for $10.

Carb cleaner AND ~ four cans of Brake Cleaner.

Aluminum catch pan.

Old antifreeze container for the sludge.

MMMM GRAVY!!

Odin,

LOL... wouldn't doubt it. Thanks chief!

Zor,

Roger that and likewise. Been five years now. Micro rock.

ole,

Not unless the Mrs approves me running the ML 320 down the 1320. Hawglet has no rear shocks. QA1's are out being rebuilt. May go spectate for a little bit however.
