Ford May Build Another Lightning?
And not some crapping sport-track thing.....

"Following next year's arrival of the Shelby Cobra GT500, SVT will launch the Sport Trac Adrenalin -- a sport utility truck based on the next-generation Explorer. The company has also committed to building a Lightning, based on the F-150, while Ford designers and engineers are contemplating an SVT version of the Fusion, Ford's new midsize sedan that will debut this fall. "
There may be a hope afterall.....

Sorry guys, but after seeing that Sport-Crap thing, I've got to hold out for whatever hope I can. This is actually the first mention of Ford actually considering the L as an ongoing project for some time now.

Herb,
I am with you on this one.
While the Sport trac may be a nice addition to SVT's lineup, it definitely is not what I envision as a replacement for the Lightning. IMHO the Lightning is an innovator in the sport truck market, and up until recently the king of it.
At this point, I am holding out hope for the G3 Lightning. As a matter of fact, the wife is 100% behind buying the G3 if it comes out.
My thoughts on the Sport trac is that its a neat concept, and may be a great vehicle, but its not a Lightning. Never will be, plain and simple. You have to wonder how long AWD will hold up when you take an 03 cobra motor and mod it.
On the other hand, they advertise the 05 Harley edition as having optional AWD, so maybe, just maybe that is the preliminary platform for the new L.....
I say lets flood SVT with emails and faxes!! If that doesn't work, lets call Jesse Jackson for help

hope the next gen lightning wont be outrageously expensive like the new ford trucks seem to be getting. but if the rumors are true the new lightning will have the same engine/specs as the Ford GT
It'll be hard to believe that it'll have the exact powerplant as the GT (bring the price of those 45k engines down to 10k)
Most likely the exact same powerplant as the shelby cobra, 450hp version of the 5.4 4v

From what i have heard on tv (and this is just rumor) is that the Cobra engine could be thrown in it. They were saying Ford may have so tricks up their sleeves before they release the truck. That would be freaking sweet a V10 6.4-Liter 605hp!! BYE! BYE! DUDGE!
well
i think people misunderstood the press release about the adrenaline.
The said that they included things in the truck that people wanted in the lightning. They didn't say that this is the replacement for the lightning, so we are putting stuff that people wanted in the new lightning on it.
I personally like the new truck, but would like a new lightning that much more.
Just my opinion.

tallimeca I think like you do when it comes to the new truck,
While I love the Lightnings, with our NE winters I have to cringe when I see 2" of snow and I have my Army Reserves. My truck is my daily driver , I have absolutely NO traction in snow, so I baby it like a sled through the snow.
I saw the Adrenalin last night at the NY Car show and I actually
liked it. Best of all, it has everything I wanted.
According to the Rep I spoke with last night, it will have a SC 4.6, a 6 speed (auto) and AWD (I know its old news) But the fact I can tow my Gen1 also is a plus. Having more room, and a very peppy truck is also plus.
Like any concept, we will have to wait until it actaully appears. I was told to expect it as a 2007 model, so I guess I get to ride/slide for one more winter with my red Gen1 Lightning.
After nearly 12 winters, I think I will make it.
see you at the track,
John

As much as I'd love to see a Gen. III (I had hoped to have had one by now, sitting in the garage right next to my car . . . having the best of both worlds . . . alas, Ford saw to it that did not happen) . . .
I have a feeling that we'll see this:
before we see a Gen III Lightning.

I believe there will be a Gen III. They can not build multiple cars at once, so for now its the Cobra and Adrenalin. Then they will concentrate on the Fusion and Lightning, thats how they made it sound to me. They are still "committed" to building another Lightning (so they say) and the Adrenalin is only based on the "next-generation explorer" so that sounds like it will not be taking the place of the L. Then again I could be wrong. Not going to get any hopes up, but wishful thinking.
