Question Vacuum canister questions...

So I got my Comp Camps vacuum canister today. The canister has 2 nice threaded studs on the side. Any good locations to mount this bad boy (and did you have to fab your own bracket)?

One funny thing I noticed, the canister uses 2 different size barbed fittings, so I don't know if I got the wrong part or if I'm just supposed to use an adapter. The brass fitting is 3/8" outer-diameter (the proper size), and the black plastic swivel check valve thingie has a 1/2" outer-diameter. Were other people's fittings different sizes like this?

Looking at Don's Bolt's canister, his check valve is a different color and I don't see him using an adapter.

I lost the fitting that came with mine, and I had problems with the check valve that came with mine. So I went to NAPA and got a new check valve.

I still think where I mounted mine works awesome, on the drivers side of the radiator shroud.

What kind of problems did you have with your check valve? Did it look like mine before you replaced it (black, and 1/2" size)?

Sounds like I should just replace the check valve with a 3/8" one.

I like your location, but are the studs going through the radiator shroud (you drilled 2 holes), or are they poking through some other panel that I can't see from the pics? Is the silver stuff I see just conduit/insulation? That does look like a tidy installation, but I have to see if my fresh air ducting will get in the way.

I don't exactlly remember why I replaced the check valve

The studs just go through the radiator shroud. The silver things you see are fender washers. I just drilled 2 holes, put a few washers on, and a washer behind, with a nylock nut.

Hmm ok thanks. Advance Auto Parts looked at me like I was from outer space, so I'll try NAPA tomorrow (closed for Easter).

Well, for the benefit of future search archives, I will post the solution for anyone who gets the wrong size check valve on their vacuum canister like I did. Go to your Ford dealer and buy a "power brake booster check valve" (part no. DOAZ-2365-A). It fits perfectly now.

Still strategizing on ideal mounting location and hose routing though.

The stock vacuum canisters are between the battery and the right fender. Not sure if this helps your situation.. just thowing it out.

Oh yeah? Hmm I'll have to look. What are those used for? I am installing this aftermarket one in-line on the vacuum hose going from the driver side of the blower to the brake booster on the firewall on the driver side. Are the vacuum canisters you're referring to related to the power braking system?
