Jim usually recommends the ngk's. The denso's have been known to crack at the ceramic around the tip. I used the Denso's for almost 2 years with no problems. Then at a plug change after running pretty heavy boost, I found one of them to be cracked around the tip. I don't know if it would have eventually fallen off, but I am a little bit leary of them now.

I run TR6's gapped at .034 and have been pleased. I broke an electrode off a Denso once while trying to gap it so I yanked the other 3 I had already installed and threw the rest of them in the garbage. The NGK's do a great job and are waaaaaay less expensive than the Denso's.

My HP, my times(both are sub what it really is doing) on a stock block; always on Denso's IT22's Only EVER slightly melted the tip of one due to running very low fuel and starving it for fuel on a hard take off. But, what do I know

Don, Dealerjim-

What about BR7EF's?

I've asked each of the big 3 tuners what plug they recommend on a high boost, built motor.

1 said TR6
1 said BR7EF
1 said Denso's

Go figure.

As a follow up...

I'm surprised Don is gapped at .034

I was under the impression for high boost, .031-.032 is better.

How bout you Delaerjim...whats your gap?

You want the widest gap possible without spark blowout. I haven't had any problems with .034 but that's not to say others wouldn't. It was basically a trial and error thing with me. I started with .036 and had blowout, then .035, etc. until the problem was gone.

I haven't had any experience with the BR7's but if I'm not mistaken the high boost guys with nitrous are running those.

On my race program I run 19psi boost w/ no nitrous and the TR6's fit the bill just fine. I refuse to pay nearly $11 per plug when I can get the NGK's for $1.50 each. JL could've just as easily ran that 9.8 with NGK's.

BR7EF is the exact same plug I have in my Honda Snowblower.

I run Denso IT-20 with my 4lb with no issues for over 25K. Runs smooth as silk. Toyota uses Denso in all their twin cam applications from factory.

I will change to IT-22 when I increase to 6lb. Yes they are more money but they burn very efficiently.

IMO
