Question motor reassembly question

I have a little question. after blowing the stock motor to pieces I'm hesitant to use anything from it with the fear some metal shavings will get into the new motor. the question is I have a new short block coming and I already have my new patriot heads and crower cams. do I reuse the factory followers (rockers) and hydraulic lash adjusters(lifters) or do I buy all new. when I pulled the heads today there was metal fragments all the way up there so I'm now nervous. when you swap cams do you change these parts. I know I always did on my small block Chevy's. also does anyone have the part numbers for these.

sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for the help

Victor

If you found metal fragments in the head it's probably a small price to pay for the new parts in the grand scheme of things. What would it cost to replace a scored bearing that goes bad because you scrounged on the old parts?

Cheap insurance if you ask me...$400 for peace of mind and not having to rebuild a motor a second time because corners were cut is still money well spent.

I agree. The slip fit of the lifters is very very tight. The smallest of particals in there could make one sticky.

mine ive had for almost 3 months but when i ordered them i got them in a little over a week. as for the cam gears if your going with aftermarket cams you need new gears. the gears from our motors are pressed on to the stock cams. the new gears are factory parts i have the ford part numbers if you need them.

The rockers ride against the cam so do they wear with the cam. I always heard that you had to replace your lifters when you replaced your cam in the old push rod motors because the lifters ride on the cam and they wear together. well in this cass the roller follower or rocker rides on the cam so does it wear too

The lifters used in pushrod motors often contacted only part of the cam lobe, this made them spin in their bores and helped with wear, etc.

Obviously the rockers don't spin and in general are in contact with the cam lobes across their entire surface. The contacting surfaces of the rockers should be very smooth and if they are, they should be fine with the new cams, if they aren't, they won't be good with any cams.
