Calling SCT Pro Racer Users
Calling SCT Pro Racer Users
How has the experience been? I’ve gotten one opinion offline, but I’m looking for more. The SCT PRP seems like a good fit for me for several reasons:
1) I am the quintessential “trickle-modder”
2) I DO NOT TRUST the available tuning resources near me.
3) I am experienced in instrumentation, DA, A to D conversion and custom driver software
4) The Raptor datalogger is included (on my wish list anyway)
5) The price is less than a handheld + datalogger
The only place I have found to buy is Modular Depot. One thing that concerns me is that one of their ‘benefits’ is access to the mysterious users forum. I cannot judge the usefulness of this ‘feature’ because I can’t see it. I would HATE to log in after purchase to find only old posts or unanswered questions.
So, the questions:
1) Has the PRP worked for you?
2) Would you recommend it?
3) Would you do it again?
3a) If not, what option WOULD you do?
3b) Also, what specifically turned you off it?
4) What does the flasher version come with?
4a) it the flasher the Xcalibrator?
5) Are there other purchasing sources?
Thanks,
Herb
I have the Pro Racer kit from Modular Depot.
Sorry that I really give you alot of info, considering I have only been tuning with mine for a couple of weeks on and off.
1 - Works great !..its awesome to have complete control over your own tune. (I have a TwEECer on my 94 Cobra also)
2 - Yes, I would recommend it to anyone that wants to learn more about how to tune.
3 - Yep
4 - I have the chip version
5 - Any SCT Dealer could sell it to you I would guess, but I dont actually know this for a fact.
The hidden Forum on MD is okay, I have seen the Tuners on there help people, but I have also seen them **** off people also.

Have had the software much longer than I have and can probably give you more info. than I can.
The greatest advantage for me about the SCT PRP:
- I can alter my tune after new mods immediately.....no waiting for someone else to find time for me.
btw: I have a friend that became a SCT dealer a few months back. He mainly tunes supercharged rangers and explorers. But he has been tuning a few mustangs lately and now he has been giving me a few pointers on where to go with my tune.
I hope I helped you at least a little.

Thanks - every bit of info helps.
I'll be a new user too, so that perspective is DEFINATELY needed.
Jody answered my post on NLOC with a glowing review as well.
I guess the hook is baited and waiting for Casey!
Thanks,
Herb
BTW - how long have you had yours and what IS the flasher? Is it basically the Xcalibrator?

Save your money and get the tweecer rt. I think they may be available soon for the Lightning...
pros are you get support from other users on yahoo forums and such
better resale
no key needed
no paying sct people money when you sell the prp and have to set it up for the new user
you don't have to remove and replace the chip every time you burn a new tune
(for flasher you don't have to pull fuel pump fuse every time you install new program)
tweecer has great adjust maf by percentage sct you have to calculate it out
I'm not 100% proficient with either but tweecer is a better option.
btw, the hidden forum was not too helpful to me...
good luck whatever you do.

As you know - yours is the opinion I got offline. I didn't want to rat you out or speak publicly for you, so I didn't.
I looked into the twEECer and it seems that they currently support the earlier processor, but not the ABU2.
On my old Cobra (94), I used the EECTuner by Shift Master, so I am familiar with this type of tuning tools. BTW - the interface SUCKED for that one, but the communiuty support is pretty vast- I am still on the mailing list and Web Group for EEC Tuning. I held onto it, thinking it may be usable to the L, but no dice.
For everyone - I am looking for both the positive and negative side here, so don't avoid posting if there is something you don't or didn't like about the PRP.
The resale thing is not an issue for me - I still have alot of the go-fast parts off my 93 GT and my Cobra - I hate to lose money on ANYTHING!
Think I can make an S-Trim VS-2 and an MSD 6AL and BTM work on the L?

Positives; getting what you want in your tune, and not some BS that a mail order tuner is giving you. There is a LOT of that! You don't have to wait on a tuner to make a change.
The help forum is ok.... It can be helpful, but like they said can ***** you off trying to get help! There is actually a help forum you can register with that is SCT themselves. It really isn't that hard, but is a whole new learning curve! The base tune they give you for your setup is pretty close actually if you give them your mods, and what you are looking for out of it.
For me it is a must; because I am ALWAYS changing my setup. But; like others said. I have connections with a local tuner who has help me a LOT. As a matter of fact we are going to be putting my truck on the dyno to see if we can get a little more out of it on the stock block
