Has Anyone Painted Their Wheels ?

Guys, my wheels for some reason are starting to flake a lil and I have no idea why being they have yet to ever be curbed. I called a couple shops around here to find out what it would be to just strip and repaint the wheels both stock and in black and they wanted as much as $1000 for the set. The more I think about it, it doesnt look very hard to do and I'm thinking of doing them myself. Has anyone else done this ??

I already know I'm gonna need some aircraft paint stripper to get the clear and layer of chipped paint up. What kinda steps should I take to do this ?? Should I use Caliper paint ?? Also I plan to leave the rim edge silver in color to break up the black a lil. What kinda tape should I use to mask off what I want to leave silver.

Also Please post pics.

Thanks guys.

Why don't you ask to borrow some money too Josh

Ah screw it, buy some paint at the hardware store and spray um on the truck. (don't worry any paint you get on the rubber will wear off eventually)

Somewhere I saw a complete write up on this Josh ???
I'll try and look for it....

painting wheels

I had the inside painted to match the color of my truck and it turned out great. I think i paid about 250 for all four wheels. The guy told me he taped off with "painters tape" and sandblasted out the old finish and color then painted with auto paint and clearcoated just like factory.

I don't have any pics, but will try to get some when i can.

i had mine powdercoated for < 200. painted the center caps with 4 layers of krylon high gloss black and 3 layers of clear. (after hand sanding, of course) Turned out great. Don't know if you can leave the lip though without damaging the integrity of the powdercoat.

I got my wheels powder coated black for 60 bucks a wheel. I had them sand the paint off the lip and then I fine sanded them with 220, 500, and then wet sanded with 1000, 1200. Turned out very nice. I sanded the center caps down and then used krylon fusion paint and clear coat. 3 layers of black and then 2 to 3 layers of clear. Here is a few pics.
