Boost gauge issue?
I have been noticing a problem that seems to be getting worse and worse. My boost gauge "rattles" internally at around 1700 rpm during moderate accelleration. It won't do it as bad id I just ease into it, or if I stomp down on it. I have an autometer phantom boost gauge mounted on my steering column. Has anyone else had this problem?
Grimace,
When I mounted my Phantom on the pillar, I had a rattle problem as well. Found it to be the plastic hose line just touching something inside the pillar mount. Two things I did.
1. Cut off the hose right at the ferrule, slide a length of heat shrink tubing over the hose as far down as you can. Then either shrink to fit or tape in place. Install a new ferrule and re-attach it to the guage.
2. At the point where the guage mounts in the bracket, use a 1/4" strip of black electrical tape on the guage where the back of the guage face and the whit portion of the guage come together. Run it all the way around. When you re-install the guage, it will hold it securely in place and hide any white portions of the guage that might be exposed. I kinow the rubber band that is on the guage holds it, but this tape strip goes under it and makes it just a hair thicker.
Hope this helps.
