Unfortunately, it doesn't have enough mileage! Never thought I'd have to say that.
This is very valuable info kobiashi, thanks again.

My 2003 Lightning which was bought in New Hampshire, where I live, is California certified. States it on the sticker in the engine bay and it states it on the window sticker that was on it when I bought it.
As a matter of fact the last 4 Ford vehicles I bought, all in New Hampshire, were all California certified. 1997 F150, 1999 Mustang, 2001 F150 and my Lightning.
New Hampshire has NO smog requirements at all, in that there is no smog testing. We only have an annual safety inspection and they do NOT check for any smog items.
As far as the Lightning’s go I can’t see why some would be California certified and some not. That would be MORE costly to Ford with such limited production of the Lightning. Think about it, some of them they would have to install California certified smog parts and others not.
That would limit Ford on how many Lightning’s could be sold in California. I don’t think you will have any problems finding a Lightning that is certified for California…
Personally, I think all vehicles in the past 5 – 8 years have been California certified. As I said if they were not it would require different parts on the same makes. I think Ford chose the smart and logical path and installs all California certified parts on all vehicles and includes it in the price…

To Skip and Burt -
Yeah, one would think that all Ls would be California certified . . . but such is not the case.
Back when I was toying with the idea of getting a third L . . . and couldn't find any of the color that I wanted in CA , I found two at one dealer just outside of Seattle. I had them check the plaques in the engine bay. One was CA certified, and the other was not.
Any time you hear a dealer say "All cars are 50 state certified" all that means is that it sez "federal" on the plaque . . . but that ain't good enough for the People's Republic of California. It also needs to say California on the plaque.
I can speak from first hand experience that not all are California certified.
Why?
Who knows. The world, and car manufacturers, work in strange and mysterious ways.

there's ben quite a few low mileage lightnings pop up for sale the last few months...
and they all sold for about what they sold for new
I'm at 37,000+ on my 04. It just became my daily driver this spring. I've never looked forward to the ride to and from work until I started driving the Lightning.
I bought this 04 with 15,800 miles after my 03 got totaled and the Lightnings where well out of production so I couldn't get a new one. Two weeks later the same dealer got another 04 Lightning with only 2500 miles on it....I was soooo pissed...lol.

I remember someone posting (forget what forum) of a guy who bought every single color of the 03's and where immediately stored in his private warehouse. Pics where posted and everything. Think the guy was in Washington state or somewhere out north west..... It would be totally cool to start brand new today with an 03/04 with under 200 miles on the OD.

leave the show trucks alone and get another lightning to drive

I know somewhere some collector has one of these trucks in brand new unused condition stored somewhere!
