I need to trailer a 2004 Lightning

I'm buying a 2004 Lightning and need to trailer it home which is about 300 miles. I'm hoping that someone has trailered their Lightning and can tell me how wide the trailer must be between the fenders. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone local with a Lightning. Thanks in advance for the help.

Is the 79.1" width from the outside of the tires? If not, what is that measurement?

Thanks for the welcoming me to the club. I'm located in Southern NJ.

I bought the Lightning to pull my 1985 Mustang drag car. I went back and forth between buying a Lightning or a Silverado SS but I finally decided on the Lightning. A Lightning towing a Mustang drag car seems to be a bit more appropriate than using a Silverado. I doubt anyone will disagree with me on this board.

Haha... not only do i agree, but the L has much more performance than the SS. If you wanted more passenger capacity and towing capcity SS is the way to go, but for what u need the L is perfect and fast! enjoy it!

my trailer is 85" btw the fenders. that leaves about 1-2"of bed left on each side. the biggest problem I encountered is positioning the truck so all the weight isn't on the tongue. My trailer is 18' with a 2' dove tail for a total 20'. cross your straps and pull on.

Driving the Lightning home is an option but I was trying to avoid that so I wouldn't need to take a second person with me. Unfortunately, my trailer that I use for my drag car is only 74" between the fenders which is way too narrow. The seller of the Lightning offered to sell me his trailer but the width between the fenders is 77" which I believe will not be enough. He is taking measurements this afternoon but I thought it wise to get some advice from all of you as well. Thank you very much.

When I blew my motor last year, I had to put my truck on a 6ft wide trailor. It fit BARELY! The front tires rubbed up through the fender wells and the exhaust pipes just about hit them also. I also had my 20's on the front. I also had to pull the truck on the trailor with a come-along. Good luck

Here's how I towed my 02. Went about 700 miles. My Chevy has the 5.7L. I also installed some AirLift airbags in the rear. I inflated them to about 90psi.

I guestimate that I was pulling about 7000lbs. It drove just fine even though I never went above 65mph with it.
Some kind of Trailer Brakes are a MUSTas well as some sort of load leveling IMO.
I don't see why the Lightning wouldn't fit on most car trailers mine fit like a glove.
