gains from a ported lower?
gains from a ported lower?
anybody have any info on the gains from a ported lower intake? i went ahead and ported my blower, upper plenum, throttle body while my truck is apart waiting for my new motor. is there much to be gained from port matching the lower intake to the gasket, and having the same done with the heads?
thanks
thanks
Lower intakes have been ported by quite a few people out there. As far a hp gains, I couldnt say. I can say that the material is thin around the injector boss and mine was ground through in 9 places. Also under high boost the casting will crack if ported too much. Through much welding on the intake to repair it, and on my heads which can hopefully be fixed. I hydrolocked my motor. Be carefull.

I have a good deal of experience porting heads and intakes and did extensive porting on lower intake, WAY more than the 2 mm with focus on staying a few mm smaller than gasket since heads were opened to gasket and particularly to straightening port to transition to newly ported heads. Unported intake port opening is MUCH smaller than gasket and particularly around the injectors, but ports are short, so restriction is probably limited.; straigtening port would likely have most impact, highly polished surface finish is mostly for "bragging rights" and making **** types happy. Main thing is not to get too close to injectors 1/2 - 1" above manifold surface, this is where you can break through.
Unfortunately, I was like yourself and doing built motor, ported blower along with upper and lower intake, so can not tell you impact of lower intake alone.
