Question Aftermarket Oil Pan Question

After pulling my motor I see my pan was in bad shape. I was thinking about replacing it with a larger aftermarket pan.
Either the CANTON Part #16-780 I believe it is a steel pan
Or the Moroso Part#20554 this one is fabricated aluminum like the trans pan I have.

are any of you running either of these pans and if so how do you like it.
they are close to the same price so I was thinking of going with the moroso pan.

I don't have experience with either... however aluminum will transfer heat from the oil to the surrounding air quicker than will the steel.

Just my 2 cents... Rich

I have the Moroso and like it alot, It increases the capacity to around 8 quarts and looks great.

however, good luck pulling or reinstalling your motor with it installed. aparently it'll go in there, but it's a MAJOR P.I.T.A.

I installed my motor with the cab off, so it was no problem, but the last motor was installed by Shaun and the guys at JDM, and from what I understand it was a big headache to pull/install the traditional way with the pan installed.

someone here even had the pan modified so it would go in/out easier while attached to the motor.

I'm not familiar with the Canton part, but I had trouble with the canton windage tray (seperate part) as it doesn't follow the exact shape of the elastomer bead on the pan gasket, and it actually cut the gasket and caused a leak.

good luck.

later,
chris

P.S. click the sig and check out my galleries for pics of the moroso pan installed, and un-installed.

I say keep the stoc pan. I used to have the canton pan windage tray on mine. Tranny changes are a bear. the pan is only about 1.5" s from the tranny where you have to remove the converter nuts(bolts on stock). It looked okay, I spent more money on oil and had to get a different pickup tube.

ps never in almost 20K miles did I have a problem with the pan and windage tray leaking.

That someone was me and PITA doesn't do it justice. It cost me 3 weeks to a month between trying to install the pan with a Cobra pickup and having to take the pan to a fabricator for mods to fit around the pickup and then trying to drop the motor in and finding out it wouldn't fit and then pulling everything and taking the pan back to the fabricator/welder for mods to get it to fit the truck. Then on install the pan crushed the brake line going to the passenger side front brake

As you can tell I'm a patient person and I wanted that pan in there but damn what a job.

I had the Canton pan which worked fine with the stock pick up. I now have the Moroso pan wich was extensively modified, cutting and welding, to fit the high volume pick up and DSS main support. What a pita. As far as the effectiveness of either pan , the Canton has 4 trap doors that are fully functional, the Moroso is just a big sump.
