HORSEPOWER TV... Installed BDS BLOWER.. QUestion

Does that BDS Blower have a cogged Belt on it? It appears the belt only touchs 1/4 of the blower pulley, whereas on the lightning we are wrapping that belt around 75% of the blower pulley.

If they are using a cogged pulley, what happens when you let off the gas, don't you need a little bit of belt slip?

Perhaps I'm wrong but I think you need a little belt slip on the lightning on Deceleration. That is why I haven't invested in a MP Braket.

I upgraded my belt tensioner as it was allowing my belt to slip and the bottom of the blower snout was covered in black belt dust. Since I went with a stiffer tensioner, I have no more black dust, indicating that the belt slippage has stopped (or severly decreased).
My '99 belt tensioner had (I believe) a 9# PSI spring in it. THe one i have now has 12#psi in it. Granted my truck has low mileage for a '99, the spring (when I replaced it) was still 5 years old, so it's natural for it to start losing it's tension.

HOWEVER, DO we need a little belt slippage on deceleration? Also, I know Motoblue or metco sells cogged upper pullies, however I thought I read somewhere that cogged pullies aren't the best option for our vehicles..

The 6-71's and 8-71's use a cogged belt so they do not slip. No issues with that at all. Centrifugals and turbos use surge valves or blow-off valves because they're pressurizing the throttle body; at wot full boost you slam the throttle shut the throttle blade shuts and there's nowhere for the boost to go except back up against the impeller on the turbo/centrifugal. We don't have that with our maf system and the 6-71's don't either so it's not a problem.

Do yourself a favor and purchase the Magnum Idler Bracket. Its probably is only half the cost of a law book

Repeat after me.........

Belt slip is BAD
Belt slip is BAD
Belt slip is BAD

I know I know... But right now I don't want any more mods, and I think I'd welcome a little belt slippage, as I'm running a 6# lower with ported eaton. I CANNOT afford a new block (yet) and a little slippage for me is a good thing, even if I leave a little performance on the table.
(Heck I only have a street tune, no race tune)

Your a Lightningholic, and you know it
I only have a steet tune (12 degree's total timing) in my truch right now

I even remember saying when I traded my 99 in, I was going to leave the 01 stock

And I even remember saying after I hit the 11's, I wasn't going to spend any more money on my truck

We haven't finished building the engine yet so I can't offer advice. we just had it in to mock it up for fit.

I just saw this as an opportunity to show off my new setup.
