Go get 5 gallons of toulene at the paint store and dump them in. You'll be fine with that.

He's serious. Toluene is 114 octane and one of the main ingredients in octane boost. It mixes readily with unleaded, doesn't foul O2's or cats.

You do need to determine how much 87 versus 93 you have first to determine how much Toluene to add. I know you have 14 gallons of 87, but how much 93 was in there?

You're at almost 90 octane already. But the tank appears to be full too so no room for more gas, unless you drain some.

I'd just drive normally and burn up 5 gallons and then top off with 100 octane if that's what you want to do. That gets you to nearly 92 octane. If you just burn off three gallons and add Toluene or Xylene you end up with about 93 octane and it's likely less than race gas.

Actually, tolulene can be used as an octane booster, but is normally mixed at about a 7:1 ratio with gasoline. But I'm a little skeptical about dumping 5 gallons of it into only 14 gallons of fuel. Tolulene is actual Methyl Benzine and rates pretty high on the list of known carginogens. So, if you want to spend the money on the tolulene, put in only two gallons. Breathing it gives a ripping high, followed by a ripping headache. Remember the fine art of glue sniffing? Same "active ingredient". But, if you'd rather not handle stuff that will cause parts of your body to wither and die, go get some 100 octane. If you have 14 gallons of 87 in there and you add 6 gallons of 100 you'll be just under 91 octane. The more you can add, the better.

I can find Xylene at some paint stores here, Toluene is harder to find. Depends on your neck of the woods. Xylene is a little higher octane (117) so three gallons of it or Toluene will do more than 5 gallons of 100 octane unleaded.

Problem is he doesn't have the room in the tank for that; he has 14 gallons of 87 but that's mixed with 12 gallons of 93. 3 gallons of either Xylene or Toluene gets him to or very near 93 octane average, but he's got to burn off three gallons of gas to have room.

I was busy composing my response while he was posting the fact that the was already nearly full. Best choice: Drive gently to paint or chemical supply (maybe Home Depot). Buy either tolulne or xylene and enjoy the new, fresh smell of the exhaust. Second choice, drive it like you've got 89 in there until you've got more room for 100.

aw...c'mon guys...you mean to tell me that you really want to add that just to get to about 93 octane? Be real. The 87 isn't gonna make THAT much difference unless you are WOT all the time and getting some knocking/predetination.

I think anyone with any sort of control over themselves can take it easy for a bit until there is room in the tank to top off with 93 octane fuel. At least until he can work the 87 out of the system?

If you can't sleep at night then by all means drain out the 87 and add some premo 100 octane..otherwise just let nature take it's course.

Just a different view.
