'04 w/leaking axle pinion seal...

Just curious if this has happened to others (reg. F150 and L's both).

It's leaking on the driveshaft/yoke side. I have the roush lowering kit (been on for 13mo now). Slicks? FTVB? [shrug]
any ideas?

Txsvt, It should be warranty item. Ford has had a bunch of problems with the 9.75 axle in the 04 F150's (same as in L) with gear noise and bad housings etc. They have been replacing them left and right in regular 150's so you should be ok. Just don't take it in with the slicks on!

Common Problem

I had it happen to my 2000 L. They will fix it under warranty, no biggie.

hmmm- it's a bugger to do but I wonder if I should remove the 58" t-bars prior to going in.

Mine had a tiny drip '03. Took it in last week and they replaced it no problem. FWIW, i got nothing to hide, mine is lowered, with bars, even left the melted rubber on the molding. Tech said it was a bad pinion seal and they replaced it.

What pissed me off was I took it in because of a leaky driver side valve cover. The same tech said that is normal seepage and they couldn't take care of that. It's got visible oil running down the head. They died it and ran it for a couple minutes and couldnt uv the dye. I drove it 80miles home and hit it with my uv and it showed.

I think it had more to do with how much time it really took to do the job versus how much time they could bill for warranty work. I get a good discount at the parts counter. Bought the gasket and will do that myself. It's not worth the hassle of letting someone else wrench on the truck. And I will know it's been done right.

In all seriousness, its easier to change that pinion seal than it is to remove the t-bars. I wouldn't worry about it.
