Anyone willing to develop an LT system that's quieter?
Anyone willing to develop an LT system that's quieter?
There are a LOT of guys who feel that the current LT, 2-cats, and cat-back are just too loud for daily driving; I know I certainly do. I think there's a market for a quieter system that maybe has some extra bullet mufflers, baffles, something to quiet them down to a reasonable level in the cab. Does anyone here know someone who'd be interested in developing a mid-pipe system that was quieter? Or am I on my own? ;-)

I put a bunch of sound deadener in my cab, it helped alot. It added about 60-70 lbs., but I dont care about the weight.
I sometimes wish mine was quiet like it was with the stock manifolds and cats, but it sounds like such a BEAST with the longtubes and high flows and Bassani.
I dont drive mine everyday, so I guess thats why I can live with it.

The basic "problem" with incab noise is the exit location.
When it's *right there* it's awfully hard to mask the noise.
KBZilla has a good method. Deadening the cab would be about the best bet w/o choking the exhaust off.
Rich (just my 2 cents)

A guy I use to deal with had the same problem with his buick t-type. He hated drone and he wanted it quiet. He went thru a lot of different systems before he got what he wanted and the muffler that finally did the trick was a big oval Dynomax crossflow muffler with one pipe coming in one side and the other in the other side so the exhaust crosses itself and seems to self cancel the sound or something, all I know is it worked. The cars actually come stock with a very similar muffler so I think the Dynomax was a performance upgrade for the buick.
Back pressure was very low and the car is wisper quiet....he has run 10.50's with that muffler so something has to be right. The only problem I see is it would be a pain to package something like that in a lightning and keep the side exit exhaust.

I'm with you on this.
The stock exhaust is all the exhaust "tone" I want to hear. I'd love to have free flowing exhaust, but not more noise (it gives me goosebumps to see a quiet turbo V-8 make a blisteringly fast pass without the noise).
In my experience in HP cars, the Edelbrock RPM series mufflers are extremely quiet, and more quiet than any other performance muffler I have heard. I'm wondering if they make something for our trucks. Also, I'll bet the exhaust going out the back would quiet things down, but that would look cheesy.

Jody,
I've been on the same quest as you for quite a while now. It's approaching 3 yrs. since I installed my JDM full exhaust with the single Magnaflow.
9 months ago I replaced the original muffler with the same hoping it would quieten down the drone and noise at highway cruising speed. It didn't help much at all.
I bought 2 Dynomax 17775 (I think that was the number) long mufflers but both mufflers were to big to fit.
I bought a Spintech dual in/ dual out muffler that sounded good but damn was it loud at light throttle. This might be a good muffler for a stock setup. The Magnaflow went back on.
A co-worker has a Silverado SS with a KB install and he put a single Magnaflow on dual in/ single 3" out. I couldn't believe how much drone he had and the muffler is back under the bed exiting in the stock location. He is trying out a Flo-Pro muffler this weekend that is suppose to solve the problem according to the Silverado boards.
I'll let you know how this turn out.
My goal is to cut out some of the highway drone without hurting performance.

cambojb I was going to take the high flow cats off and replace them with some resonators that quiet the exhaust a lot besides I've already twice sound deading in the back of the cab and covering the passenger side positive ventilation system ( right above the exhaust ), but after this summer I'm going turbo so no exhaust noise with the help of your knowledge.

I just talked to my co-worker after the FloPro install. His muffler is the 2503 which is suppose to be quieter than the 2504. He said it's barely louder than stock with a very good tone.
The 2504 is what we would need. The muffler is 9" tall and 12" wide so the only question is the height. I think it will fit but I need to put a tape measure to it.

My co-worker came back to work with his truck so I could hear the 2503. It's has a great tone but is not much louder than his stock muffler. It almost sounded too quiet for me which might make the 2504 just right from looking at the sound graph on the link I posted above. The graph shows the 2504 being louder.
