How to remove teflon coating from your S/C rotors

Aircraft Remover, or any auto paint stripper found in an auto parts store.

That easy.

Be sure to not allow the stripper to come in contact with the rotor seals behind the drive gears. Spray on the blades, wait 15 minutes and wipe off the mess. Bright, shiny aluminum will greet you, and no more worries about flakes in the I/C.

strip the teflon....

And mess up the rotor to housing tolerances.

Less boost as a result?

On the older Eatons (99-00 style), the coating was a paint that used to come off in huge flakes. The newer blowers have a much more durable finish, that usually stays on even if it gets worn or scratched in areas. I wouldn't remove it unless you've got the old peeling problem.

I've got the peeling problem on a 2002 blower. I should have prefaced this tip to say "for people whom have severe flaking/peeling issues." To date, I have never seen or quantified any negative effects as a result of removing the teflon. The only thing I've ever heard is increased whine as a result. Does anybody else have any reports of negative issues with removing teflon?

So the egg whites won't stick to the blades.

When I took my S/C off at 8,000 miles, nearly half of the teflon had already flaked off and mine is a 03. Most of what flaked off was logged in the I/C, so I had to take a air hose and blow it out. Now I got 18K miles on the truck and its prolly bad the way it was.

You ever heard of sandblasting? Sugar blast is a very mild abraisive that will remove the coating and still leave a smooth finish.
