I am trying to decide on buying an 01 L, I just sold my O3 cobra, and I am wondering, since there is no warranty, is there anything specific that went wrong with the 01 L, I remember hearing about the spark plug threads, is that a problem still and is there anything else I should know, thank you for your comments, HG

 

Welcome to the board! The 99-02 models had the 4 thread heads and have issues with launching plugs. The 03-04 models have 8 thread heads. Other than that big issue, it should be a solid truck depending on if the previous owner modded it and how it was treated.

I have an 02 and I am very happy with it. Just check your plugs every 10,000 and you should be ok with the 01. Be warned, checking/changing plugs is a JOB but the more you do it the easier it gets.

 

Welcome, The 01s are just fine. Just ask the owner if it ever blew a plug and after your purchase ..just check them for tightness.
To the best of my knowledge 99% of the blown plugs came from people who never checked the *original plugs*.

Just wondering why you got rid of an 03 Cobra?

 

Man, having an 03 cobra used to be just a dream, and then I got one and it was better then a dream. They are like rottweilers; one of the most powerful working/guard dogs and most loyal- but they can easily be turned into a horror if not loved and taken care of, Just like the 03 cobra they are fast as heck stock but can very easily be turned into raging horror with 1500.00 dollars, I hated to sell it but I was moving into a house and needed a truck. Anyone contemplating buying an 03-04 cobra, beware, you'll mess your pants with the pulley swap and a tune.
I guess I am crazy but know I want a lightning and am going to give my wife the other truck.
