That's not true. I had some work done to my black Mustang about a year ago and there are varying shades of Black. It still needs to be blended.
Your 2003 should be easy to match since it is just a year or two old and you have stored it during the winter.
Black is black, It "can" be blended but it's generally not a good idea. Black is a color that is usually just "panel" painted. No such thing as "different" shades of black. If a black paint job doesn't match it's probably just because the "new" black looks better than the older black. Or..... they used a single stage black instead of a basecoat/ clearcoat paint or visa versa. Or... the texture or "orangepeel " is different than the original factory paint which may give the impression that it is a different shade.
A quality auto body shop will have that Lightning looking like it was never damaged, probably will look better than before it was wrecked........ So no worries. Just be glad the owner wasn't hurt.
