Yes you will need a chip for this or retune if you allready have a chip.

Cool

The breather may not cause you to throw a code, but it will lean your A/F mixture out a bit.

That's why Sal, JLP, JDM, etc. all tell you if you buy one that you will need a tune.

it doesn't lean you anywhere near what you might think.. i'm playin the BS card.. as long as you plug all 3 area's from the PCV system on your intake.. you'll be absolutely fine.. I still run rich no matter what.. especially since the stock tune on the lightning is running extremely rich at 10/11 degrees of timing.. the small amount of air your recieving from the crankcase isnt going to change much..

There isn't anything for you to call "BS" on here. I'm not a tuner trying to make a buck.

Whitelighting - The "big 3" supporting vendors that frequent this forum all say to re-tune if you install one of the breathers.

How much it leans your mixture is the question - not if.

It is too expensive for most folks to tune just for this mod. Therefore, I suggest you add a 4 lb. lower, a CAI kit and a Bassani cat-back when you add the breather !!!

maybe...maybe not. If you dont throw a code have your AF checked to make sure its safe.

Or tuners can make a minor adjustment to the tune.

My close and dear friend Hillary J/K ., your last sentence makes me believe you are not clear on this topic. With the addition of a breather you're upsetting the AF ratio because you just opened the intake system to the atmosphere, so tuners do make adjustments for the addition of a breather when required.

If you plug the 3 PCV points you no longer have the crankcase as a component of your intake so theres no "small amount of air to recieve".

haha.. ur lucky im a nice guy cuz i hate hillary clinton with a passion.. BUT to the topic at hand.. i dont think the amount of air pulled from the crankcase could even be considered as "added" air.. i don't see how closing off the PCV system would make much of a difference at all..?!? Your actually missing the SMALL amount of air from the crankcase now.. now all your air is coming from your filter through the MAF.. maybe you can enlighten me on how this would lean your system..?
BTW.. my A/F gauge didnt change at all.. maybe it does lean it up.. but its such a small change its un-noticeable

I don't know what the tuners see but I got my dynoed before and after and the air fuel did not change on mine.

So I say no in my case.

My truck doesn't like the crankcase breather, it throws a lean code with and without a chip.

If you block off all three ports and use breathers, you WILL NOT have unmetered air and you will not affect A/F. I am an engineer and design PCV systems for serveral OEM's so this is not second had info. Here's a picture of how I modified my valve covers, I didn't want to use small breathers and I did not want them mounted too low (close to the valve cover) as they would then possibly drip oil on hard cornering. I now run 3 breathers, these two plus one in the oil fill tube. No path for oil to get into the intake and no messy, dripping breathers either.
