1st time filling at Chevron, niose is gone?

I think I had some pinging, not sure. But accelerating in O/D around 1.5kRPMS, just enough for it not to downshift I had some light rattling, like a muffled can of bb's, for the last month.

I havnt changed anything except my usual routine of filling up at Exxon. 1 tank of Chevron and it's gone?!?!

Maybe my 99 is just picky.

When I had mine tuned, Mike over at Troyer performance told me to run 76 and Chevron as a suitable backup... just reinforcing your observation.

Chevron fuel is the only way to go, been running it in all of my cars for 20 Years. With the exception of Race Fuel once in awhile

I always use the same Chevron station. I didn't get around to changing my fuel filter till 40,000 miles and it still looked good as new. Proof enough for me they must be doing something right compared to some of the stories I've heard.

Mike Troyer has(havn't read his posts in a long time though?) said more than once to never use EXXON gas with a vehicle that needs high-octane like ours. They use re-formulated gas thruout the country instead of just in areas(CA?) that demand it. It has less 'energy' than other high-octanes.

Sucks. I've been using Exxon/Mobil since I bought the truck. No problems at all.

halcyon,

That sounds exactly like detonation. Should it do that again on you.. run it down to 1/4 tank and put 1 gallon of some 100+ octane unleaded in it then drive it around to let it mix. If it goes away then you know full well what it is.

Also, you you motor has a fair amount of milage in it you might consider a porfessional grade injector/combustion chamber cleaning.

Sunoco and Chevron are the best. But Sunoco has limited locations.

I know Sunoco seems to own New Jersey, at least the turnpike. But in VA there are very few.

I try to always use Chevron and when home I fill up at the same station and use the same pump every time.

Here is Mike Troyer's most recent reply about EXXON and the best fuels.
