Corvette forums and the Lightning....

There's a nice little thread on the Corvette forums going on about Lightnings. Sorry I dont know how to post a link, but go the the C6 Forum and click on "C6 tech/performance". They seem to have a little respect for our trucks! KInda cool that a truck is even considered competition for a vette!

The guys over at the Corvette Forum seem to be a little more mature-respectful crowd, than those at this site. You hardly ever see anyone getting attacked at the CF.

Even with these differences, I still enjoy both sites.

I think they seem a little more respectful because there's a sticky note on that site that states personal attacks and the like will not be tolerated and you will be banned. Seems most vette owners
are middle aged folks too and generally arent as short fused as the younger crowd. Just my observation though.....

Seemed like they had a hard time distinguishing between HP and RWHP. A few of them still couldn't believe mid 13's from a stock L, with under 1K of mods you could get close to a stock C-6!
I really like the new C-6, and have seen them pull 12.63 at the track but I can't afford one. Plus I still enjoy driving my truck!!

I just replied to that thread...after reading through a lot of "stuff".

IMHO, the guy should have run the Lightning just to see what would happen. If he loses, he just helped the hot-rodding community and the economy by going out and spending more $$ on his brand new $50+k Vette.

If he wins, he just showed a Lightning owner how fast a stock C6 is in a short sprint.

I think perhaps the 1/8th is the way to race a vette. Get the jump and let them try to catch up in that short distance.

IMHO, most L's that make 0-60mph power to beat a Vette will have traction issues from a standing start... with radial tires.

If the L is running slicks, it has a significant advantage over the Vette, or any other radial tire'd stock/near-stock vehicle for that matter.

If both vehicles are on radials... a stock C6 should still manage a 0-60mph time in ~4.3-4.4 seconds w/ a good driver. I think it takes a very deft L driver to manage this type of time on radials (a stock L certainly won't do it, and a modified one will have traction issues to deal with).

If the Vette driver has a tough time on the launch, a mildly modified L can definitely take him off the line and hold him off for awhile.

**EDIT** Just so everyone doesn't think that was a plug for me, my point was that not everyone on that forum is 'mature'. The guy jumped on me because I wasn't selling/trading a Chevy. He removed the the pic (Are you really that stupid..) after I responded. I also asked the moderators to remove the post. Not saying everyone there is like that guy, but they're out there.

I love the bench racing in that thread. Thank goodness for tracks, otherwise we would have to rely on physicists to tell us what our trucks would run in the quarter. I dont give a crap how many letters you have after your name, our time slips are what matters, not the calculations on their scientific calculators.

I hope you read what I wrote at the end. You have to understand that most of them are comparing a 350rwhp/340rwtq motor to an L motor that also makes 350rwhp... but 440+rwtq.

There is a big difference in what each of these motors in the SAME vehicle would run. Peak RWHP is _not_ the entire story.

Our trucks do not defy the laws of physics. They just aren't plugging in all the right numbers.
