Thumbs up Win a Shelby Cobra, and help Kids with Cancer

I know this is a tad off topic, but it's auto related, and for a good cause.

There is currently a fund raiser raffle taking place. The raffle is for a 4000 series Shelby 427 Cobra. The car is valued at about 150k. Details on the car can be found at the link below.

The raffle benefits the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation. Tickets are $100 each, and only 3000 will be sold. The raffle was supposed to take place this month, but they have not reached the ticket goal, so it's been pushed back to May. I am posting this on several Ford sites in order to help promote the raffle, and raise the needed money for the kids with cancer program.

Details can be had below. My suggestion is to get your ticket directly from the NCCF and not Finishline, but the chioce is up to you.

Thanks to all that participate!!

Other than the engine and the shelby name what makes those replicas worth 150k- to 200 k retail ?

This car is an early 4000 series. What that means is that it predates the $42,500 current glass rollers Shelby sells (made in Mexico). This car started life as just a body and chassis from Shelby, and then all the other Shelby components were added on by Finishline (one of Shelby's tops dealers in the same complex with them). This car probably cost about 90-100k to build into roller form, and then it's got about 40k into the drivetrain between the motor, trans and rear.

I understand BUT Finishline is selling new ones for 195k. And no matter what name is associated both finish line and shelby are making replicas of a car built in the 60's. Still using largely 60's technology in the chassis and running gear. I still dont see where the 200k of value is in the replica. Hand built motor is nice - But any motor builder uses his hands to build a motor.

Sorry to take this OT

Because it's still a real Shelby. Now don't confuse the term real with the term original. An "original" Cobra was one built in the 60s. A "real" Cobra is any one built by Shelby. This is what's known as a continuation car. The original cars were VIN'd CSX2xxx for the small block cars and CSX3xxx for the big block cars. The continuation cars are CSX4xxx for the big block cars, of which this is one of them.

Not to mention when Carroll Shelby dies it will instantaneously double in value. If not more.

Shelby is allowed to issue VIN #'s if I'm not mistaken.

Or at least for the GT500E they do. They take old beat up fastbacks, strip them including the VIN, then work their magic and issue a new VIN.

If the raffle was for the E model, then i'd be in, but i'm poor.

True, but the Cobras are brand new cars. All new bodies, chassis, and components. They are made by Shelby, and finished into full cars by Shelby dealers. By law, Shelby cannot put a motor in a roller, as they are not a "vehicle manufacturer". The dealer must do that.

LightningTuner:

now it makes more sense to me. I never knew why they do things the way they do.

The shop building the GT500E wasn't Shelby owned, but most or all the parts came from Shelby............. I saw the TV special.
