I just bought a 99 L BONE STOCK w/ 28K miles and could not be more hppay. I have been reading and searching for the best mods. I kind of know what I want to do I just have one question. I want to do the FTVB, does anyone know what that will do to my line pressure? Will this mod decrease the life of the trany over stock? The truck has the factory class 3 trailer hitch with the 7-pin connector, I have heard that that option upgrades the cooler, is this correct? I plan on doing a 4# lower, chip, filter combo here shortly. Do you think that I should put a larger trans pan on the truck being that it already has the upgraded cooler? I'm not an expert by any means, but the FTVB will not decrease trans life. It should do the opposite, since it cuts down on the trans slipping, which generates heat.

As far as I know all the L's have the hitch. And you can put a 4x4 ford trans pan (for cheap) that increases fuild capacity.

Welcome ! It has the larger radiator and transmission cooler. Those upgrades are fine with the stock transmission pan. Many replace it because there is a nice selection of reasonably priced pans with larger capacity and a DRAINPLUG. Once you get the ATF bath, you'll be glad to get rid of the stock pan.

 

How has the best prices on the FTVB? I'm looking at ordering one this weekend.

 

they're all about the same for the FTVB. Then there's LFP's valve body and JLP's valve body which are a little cheaper but essentially do the same thing. Many prefer the FTVB though because Gregg Evans (creator) is a really stand up guy and has legendary knowledge of the 4R100 and also legendary customer service. I don't think you can buy direct from him, but give tim at chickenears a call. (Supporting Vendor) also extremely well known for custmoer service. Oh and welcome to the L community!

I have done some searches for fliud options. What I'm wondering is should I use AMSoil ATF or just stick to the Mercon/dexron III? I have run AMSoil in another car I had and never had a problem with it. What does everyone think I should do?

 

I just bought my FTVB w/4X4 pan and filter from Greg @ Chickenears. I cannot wait for it to get here. Once I do the install I will let you all know.
