Exclamation Separation Anxiety-Safety concern

Has anybody seen this? This freaks me out man. The media is in a frenzy around here. It's in the news and several consumer shows.

“I was doing maybe about 70 , and all of a sudden my truck started shimmying a little bit and shaking. My first reaction was to grab the steering wheel and hold on.

“I was bewildered, to say the least… I had no advance warning ... that my tie rod was about to separate.”

‘You wake up and your truck’s in the ditch’
When a tie rod end in Sean Stillmack’s truck separated, he lost control of the truck and crashed. “You wake up and your truck’s in the ditch. You’re waiting for the air bag to go off... You’re strapped in and you’re looking at the sky instead of looking straight ahead. Yeah, it’s a very scary moment.”

“Initially, I thought that the information on tie rods was Ford-bashing,” he says. But then McNally heard stories from a number of diagnostic technicians enrolled in his training course.

“As we got into it more and more, we had fellows saying ‘Oh, they’re two-to-one for failure rate, and they’re occurring as low as 30,000 miles. And in most cases, it’s rust-related.’”

Has anybody had issues with this? I've done some digging and Moog has designed a significant upgrade to address this premature tie rod end failure and unlike the stock part, it's fully greaseable.

Moog Chassis Parts

Problem Solver

The Problem Solver™

Moog Chassis Parts have long been known for their problem solving heritage. The focus has always been on improving OE technologies, designing easy-to-install parts, solving real OE problems and developing leading edge technology.

This is accomplished by using superior research and development, engineering, training, as well as marketing and sales support.

Since 1919, when the Moog brothers founded Moog Automotive, Moog has been the replacement parts industry's premier brand of chassis components, with a growing product line of problem solving parts that now includes ball joints, tie rods, drag links, center links, idler and pitman arms, control arm shafts and bushings, steering dampers, standard and variable-rate coil springs and wheel alignment products.

For more than 38 years, every NASCAR Winston Cup champion has relied on Moog problem-solving ball joints for the performance and durability required to reach the winner's circle. In light of this dominance in the world's most demanding racing series, it's no wonder Moog chassis parts are also the preferred choice of a vast majority of professional technicians across North America.

Professional technicians trust and value the Moog name because it has built a problem solving reputation. Moog is committed to building on that spirit of quality and innovation, now and in the future.

I know about the CBC. If you get on the wrong side of there reporters look out. Usually the end result is the reporters are getting escorted out by police or a camera gets smashed.
