Help !!

Guys somethings wrong with my truck. Can Someone help me figure out wtf it is.

Problem :

I noticed today that my truck is making a banging clunk kinda noise when I put it in drive. It only makes the noise if I keep my foot on the brake all the way then engage drive while keeping my foot to the brake. If I take my foot off the brake before the tranny engages it doesnt make any noise. And the same if I let it roll a lil out of my driveway before engaging drive.

The sound, sounds like it is coming from the front of the truck and is quite loud. Anyone ever experience this ?? Please Help with any Info you can as how to fix my problem.

U-joint? Jack up the rear, use jackstands, and see if they are loose.

Easy for me. I have a lift at work, & my own ball joint/u joint press.

You can do it yourself without a lift. You need to pull the driveshaft, and press out the old joint and press in the new one.
Mark your shaft so you can put it back in the same way.

BLOCK THE TIRES. MAKE SURE YOUR TRUCK CAN NOT ROLL OVER YOU WHEN YOU PULL THE SHAFT. DID I SAY BLOCK THE TIRES.

Ok just suggestions of what i think it could be.

-broken tooth in the rear end? doubt it though.
-Maybe something to do with the calipers not being on tight, especially if u hear it while holding the brake and if its coming from the front
-Its not the tranny cause it would make the noise whether or not u press the brake pedal.
-Could be loose U-joints too

Just suggestions i dont really know though.... goodluck

On my 97 Lariat I heard a popping like u described. I put it in reverse one day and the front left wheel locked up. When I pulled the wheel off, I found that one of my caliper mounting bolts had backed out completely and the caliper wedged against the wheel.

It could be the lower control arm bolt allowing the arm to move when the brake is applied. That's the noise that the "clunk" washers fix. If you suspect it, do a search under "clunk washers"

Ran to Sals a few minutes ago to drop off the painted Mag, I found Josh and his truck there. Sal pulled the rear cover and found some damage, that sucks Josh, so sorry Pal.....

I didn't get the full story, but I'm sure Josh or Sal will explain.
I guess I'll put that on the list of things I know I will have to deal with some day too, #$%@!#$&@#$&@#

Sorry to hear that Josh. It must have been from that time you let Don drive it..LOL!

Good news it that the whole Traction-loc unit only costs about 300 plus labor...obviously cheaper if Sal can rebuild it.

Well Sal took a very close look at everything and he says he believes everything else is fine in the rear, and that replacing the clutches should solve my problem barring him taking it apart and finding I have a bad bearing or something....All the spider gears looked fine and everything seemed to function normally except the packs. We'll find out soon enough I guess.
