Question Do you get more or less MPH with slicks, and spark timing?

Most cars usually get a higher MPH on street tires than on slicks.

But I was wondering, since these trucks are so non-aerodynamic, have slicks given you a better MPH because you can have the gas-pedal matted from the very beginning?

Also, I have read that the best timing (max power) setting for these trucks is 22 degrees at WOT (with good octane of course). Anybody actually experiment with WOT timing at the track? What was the difference in MPH (remembering, MPH tells the actual HP story, not ET)?

Thanks.

MPH on these is still down with slicks. I lost about 3 MPH on the top end by switching to slicks.

I only tried tall slicks once. And my mph was down too.

Interestingly enough though, on my 26" tall ET streets my speeds are always 2-3mph faster. I'm guessing because I'm hitting peak hp quicker in all gears.

Rich: You have 3.73's right? If I get slicks, you recommend 26's over 28's?

Yep 01+ models come with 3.73s.

Ideally you want to blow through the traps right at about 5400rpms. With 428rwhp and a 2500 stall I'm pretty close as is. Some days I see 4800 other *cold* days I've seen 5300. IMO right about at a 12.1-12.0 & 114mph is the limit with a 3.73 and 26" tire combo.

So... you'll wanna look down the road and see where you want to wind up before spending the money.

I'm long term planning on stock motor, 4.10s and 29-30 tall tires.
