REAR GEAR QUESTIONS (part comparison, bearings races etc...)

I know you can get different size gear ratio's...

But what I'm asking is the actual GEAR in the LIghtning the same as the Gear in the Expedition, Regular F150, etc... other vehicles with the 9.75" rear end.

OR is the "L" Gear built STRONGER than other vehicles?

ALso, when swapping the rear gears.. what is common to replace?

Mine has about 25,000 on the odometer. I changed the fluid 21,000 miles ago.
Is it typical to replace the bearings or are they generally good?
what about the clutch plates?springs, etc....

The only thing you should need is a crush sleeve and a new pinion bearing unless something is wore out.I use the stock shim off of the stock pinion.

The rule of thumb I've experienced is to add $100 for a "rebuild kit". This will cover any bearings, gaskets, fluid, and shims they'll need.

BTW: One of these days when I get some money to go 4.10s.... I'm gonna take the whole rear end to reider racing. (they wont do it in a vehicle) They were'nt the cheapest on the ring and pinion but were on the detroit true trac I put in a 8.8 rearend

R,

Even that site distinguishes between a '99 9.75 rear end and a '00-04 9.75 rear end.

Being mines a '99 which do I go with?

It's not Lightning specific, but it is 9.75 specific.
