Serious issue with aftermarket hood. HELP
Just got my aftermarket hood fitted and painted. Looks great. Now for the sh%#. It went un-noticed until hood was painted, and airbrushed underneath, but when the hood is closed it actually makes slight physical contake with the upper plenum on one corner. Anybody else have this issue ? If so how did you resolve it ? The only thing I can think of at this point is to cutout a small rectangular portion of the fiberglass directly above the point of contact, which really f's up my airbrushing, and make some kind of custom billet appurtenance which fills the hole but also provides more clearance and possibly use it to house the under hood light assembly. Ideas I am struggling here and don't want to have a "band-aide" appearance to my $1000.00 expenditure.
I have the same problem. Stock Truck with a custom hood and it rubs. I am letting it rub for a little while and then bring it back to the body shop to rresand and respray the underside. I think your only option since you have custom airbrushing underneth is to bring it back to the body shop and have them raise the fenders. This will in turn raise the hood too.
Do you have any pic's of the airbrushing. I'd like to see it.

Not really, body shops have a little room to move the fenders. They do it all the time without making it noticeable, especially with custom hoods. I didnt want to do this incase I wanted to put the stock hood back on. My hood was "thined out" underneth because it rubbed bad at first. The body shop sanded the underside down before paint, but the thickness of the primer and paint made it rub again when it was done.

I've got a solution. Take the plenum off and grind and smooth the top of it. Remove enough material to get the clearance you need. If it's only a small amount, you should easily be able to take enough off the plenum to make it clear.
As it stands right now.
As it stands right now, I am going to try and fabricate a custom polished stainless steel recess which will provide the clearance needed and serve as an underhood light enclosure. Especially since the factory underhood light assembly looks like a$$. I am still open for some creative ideas though.
Stock hoods are single sheet, aftermarkets are generally
double. Almost everyone I have seen rubs somewhere.
AAD is supposedly addressing the problem. Mine is a working
truck so the rub doesn't concern me as much as it does the
"show" guys.
