Shoud I Trade Mine For This One

Got a question for yall. I've got a 2000 with 47k miles on it with the standard chip/filter/6 lb pulley and several other little mods. I have the opprtunity to trade it for a 03 with 17k miles but no mods and a new long block with 100 miles on the new motor. ( havent got the whole story on the motor yet but it has a new one regardless). Would you trade and start all over modding it or keep the 2000 that will pay off in 2 years? Payments are going to be relatively the same on the new one. I'll just have to start over. He says he's wanting to get $25k out of the 03 which to me sound like a steal, kelly blue book lists it at $29k, any thoughts or suggestions?

I'd take a REAL good look at the body. If the engine was abuse and replaced I would think the trans will eventially have problems also. Pull a carfax.

It sounds to me to be a heavily abuse truck.

In my limited experiance, Kelly blue book can be off, sometimes really bad. That's why a lot of dealers when they sell a used car will say it is below blue book. The reason this is true is because when you trade a car in, the dealer will use a dealer NADA book or check wholesale auctions etc for trade in value.

As far as your question, are you happy with your current vehicle? In addition if you are planning on modding the potential new one, you won't have a warrenty anyhow. So just do what you feel is right.

Absolutely! Either stick with whatcha got (it's hard to beat a ride that'll be paid off soon) or go with a new 04 model and skip all the headaches of what *might* be wrong with the blown/used 03.

Are they in Tropical Medina? My wife works over at Williams in Berea and they are still sitting on a couple 04's too.

Just because the engine was replaced, HOW does that sound like a "heavily abused truck"?

I've heard of people blowing up stock motors, even heard a guy was picked up a new truck and had it in park, reved it a few times and it blew.

LMAO!! Whatever.

Anyways, personally I would not buy it. Not even with a new motor. 25 grand for a truck that already has a new engine? And has NOT been modded(which by the way is probably some serious BS, just look at the new engine )? Hell my '03 only set me back 22 grand with 13xxx miles.

heard about where...???

It's the minor details they don't tell you about....... Like bolting on a KB and no tune.

Engines don't just let go, certainly not on a regular basis. Statistically speaking it is highly likely that there are other issues with that truck.

I say stick with the one you got and once it's paid off then you can do a built moter with a kb or any other aftermarket supercharger and do some damage that way. That is what my plans are as soon as mine is paid off.

The dealer was in N.E. Ohio somewhere.. can't remember the name of it right now.
I bought both of my Lightnings at Williams Ford. Back in '99, my first Lightning was in for service there and the service guys took it upon themselves to see how the truck did with smokey burnouts. They never replaced my tires... and they were bald after that fiasco. Never went there for service again. I did buy my 2002 from them since the sales guy was a friend of mine that had just been hired on there.... but I highly doubt I will purcahse from them again.
