Can someone help buy new car

my wife and I are thinking of selling her BMW and getting an expolorer. We are wanting to have another baby and that will give us 2. The BMW has given us nothing but problems (new tranny, etc) and has been in and out of shop since day 1.

I know Ford is having pretty big rebates right now... i think about $4k on them. So that will get rid of any upsidedown equity I have... But my question is this...

Iv never really done alot of research on buying new cars, I know there are tricks and ways to pay BARLEY over what the dealer paid for them and basically get them dirt cheap... but I dont have any clue on how to do that.... iv heard of things like xplans and stuff, but i dont really know what they are either...

can someone give me the low down on this so I dont go into a dealer blinded and end up getting ripped off....

thanks guys.... ya always come through!!

Look at the sticky thread x-plans, I believe this applies to any ford vehicle. I'm sure Suavy will be able to answer your question.

Just to warn you the thread police will move this thread ASAP. You need to mention the word Lightning.

Anyhow use web sites like Kbb.com or NADA.com or even Edmunds.com. All will provide a wealth of info. For any none hot Ford product you can usually pay invoice. If you are looking for an Explorer you should also consider a Mecury Mountaineer. Also for the price of an Explorer sometimes you can come real close on a Expy. It's bigger but not that much different on fuel. In other words they both suck. Good luck.

Oh yeah you want to only pay Barely not Barley over cost, unless you meant to say you were intending to pay with cases of beer.

Like I said, you have internet access, use it. Go to NADA.com and build your vehicle. That will be your target price.

Go to KBB.com and price out the vehicle you are interested in.Go down the list of options and add as you go along. It will tell you the MSRP and dealer invoice at the bottom including freight and handling.
My trucks MSRP was $39,440.I bought it for $29,330.
