Question about tuning (Pros in here please)
Question about tuning (Pros in here please)
OK well my truck has had the basic mods on it for a couple of years
6# lower
Denso IT 22's
Air inatke
Diablo dual program chip (Red one) (Mail order from JLP)
The truck ran great.
I am now in the process of installing
Built Shortblock
Kenne Bell
Dual 255L pumps
60 lbs Siemens Deka injectors
FT Valve body
So my question is what is the best way to go with regards to tuning? I have been out of the tuning loop for over a year now so I am not up to date with the programers on new chipc since I understand my Diablo red chip can not be re-programmed (Is that true?)
So what do I do? Will a tuner like JLP or JDM dyno tune useing a hand held Perdator or SCT tuner? Or will they do it with a chip? The reason I am asking is if its best to buy a tuner then I want to start shopping around for a used one. Also are there more then one versions of the hand held tuners? I.E. old and new versions of Predator/SCT tuners?
Thanks for helping the out of the loop guy, Jason

OK did some reading here and know that with respect to SCT the Xcalibrator is trhe newer version of the 9100 but they both do the same thing only the Xcalibrator can do the newer 2005 mustangs and stuff.
What about Predator?
Do these hand held units allow tuners to enough ability to do what they have to do with the mods I listed above?
I will keep searching but any info is appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

Jason, my suggestion is the following...
Get an SCT XCalibrator. We sell them for $365 WITH the cables, and one free tune. Once you have that, you can download the Extreme software free from SCT, which will allow you to have some minor tuning abilites to the program you get from us. We can also send you tune adjustments via e-mail, so no mailing chips back and forth. I would also suggest getting a Dynojet Wide Band Commander setup (which we also sell). With the WBC, you will have a full time A/F meter in your truck, and it will save you trips to the dyno. You can log A/F, and then get me the data and I can adjust your tune and e-mail you the new tune.
It's easy nowadays to get the mail order stuff done more accurately with the right tools.
Oh, I'd also suggest an SCT BA2400 MAF with your combo, you didn't have that listed and the stock one is only good for about 450-460 rwhp.
Hope this helps!

Sal, thank you for your help. Do you sell the MAF also? If so how much?
Also with mods such as built block Kenne Bell and 60# injectors (and now MAF) is it realistic to think I can get a good "mail" order tune? Or is it worth the 9 hour drive for me to come see you in person for a dyno tune?
I have a dyno available to me here... just no tuner who is experienced with Lightnings. Gotta love Canada
Want to come take a mini vacation? Room and board all taken care for ya and I will include a night or two of
. LOL

Yes we sell the MAF too, it's $249. It's a direct replacement for the Ford 90, so you don't need any new filters or ductwork.
It's always worth coming for an in-house tune. But if you can't swing it, we can definitely take care of you mail order. The key is just having good datalogging on your end. That's why I suggested the WBC. I can send you a tune, you can make a few blasts down the road logging A/F, and then I can adjust the tune from that data. Saves you the trip to the dyno for A/F and it's always in your truck. The other great datalogging device is the SCT Raptor, which is just about the BEST datalogger out there. You need a laptop to use it. With a WBC and a Raptor, you will have all the info I need to fine tune your truck as if it were here in person.
