What a stock Predator tune does:

a local lightning owner installed the pulley tune on his truck. He has a 99 with an 8 lb lower and intake. Had engine miss and pinging and knocking at idle. He removed the blower and intercooler and found pieces of cyl 2 rings in the lower intake plenum. i removed his engine this past sat and this is what i found:
Cyl 2 Head

Cyl 2

Cyl 2 piston

more pics coming

Sorry to hear about that,

could have been worse.

8lb and non-dyno tune = boom

Hope he gets it back together soon with a better tune

Whats the point of this thread? To show how dumb that lightning owner is? He ran an 8# pulley on a STOCK predator tune? Hope you slapped him upside the head when he told you that. Also please trim your nails before the next set of pics.

What's intresting is all the other cylinders looked fine, except for some scratches at the very tops of them ,probally from trash circulating, the piston is from #2 cylinder. I was there when Spanky pulled the heads off. I hope Ian get's his motor fixed or new one soon. Best of luck

some guy advised me to use the stock tune with my pullys in the post i started the other day regarding the 90mm mass air sensor for a 2000 L. Makes it scary to know who to trust and who knows what. Im concerned because im getting some pinging at WOT with pullys = 14-15lbs (they were already on my truck when i got it) and the predators pully tune. I just hope its because i need to chang the plugs. i do have 34,000 miles on my truck 28k of which the onwer before me put on and who knows when or if they changed the plugs.

This is kind of like that saying " nitrous doesnt destroy engines, ignorance does" thank goodness I live in florida where the predator tunes were optimized.

8# on a stock block with a good tune is iffy... but an 8# with the predator tune is just asking for trouble...

hope your buddy has money to fix the engine and to buy a smaller pulley and get it tuned right.

I've got a 2 lb lower and pulley tune and I still had to richen the mixture and I live at 9500 ft! It was dynoed in Denver at 5500 ft, but still lean. Everything else was stock...

I always tell my friends that the dyno tuning (while it can be a few bucks) is always less than buying a new motor.

Is the owner a young guy, or relatively new to the high performance? I'm guessing he doesn't know what detonation sounds like.
