Gear selector on dash problem

I just noticed yesterday that my gear selector on the dash is about a half inch off all the way across. So, 'park' looks liek it is almost in reverse. The amount it is off is the same all the way across the different gears. Any idea what this could be?

check the cable

If you look under your dash there is a small cable attached to a white plastic clip that controls the indicator. Look to see if it is somehow tangled up in something. Have you done any under dash work recently ?

that white clips sometimes breaks and has to be "repaired" but i think it can be used for adjustment also. Have you done any work in that area?

The only work I did in that area was quite a few months ago when I added my trailer brake controller. Maybe something did finally get tangled in there. Also, the roads around here have been very bumpy lately due to all the potholes. Maybe something got jarred loose?
