OK, so I'm seeing posts of about $125 - $300 for plugs installed depending on part of the country and how much rape action a dealer will put on someone.

Still sounds cheaper than a new set of heads until about 10 or so years of paying that.

So, based on what SVT4rd is saying the price I paid (255.00) is indeed in line. I thought 125. sounded mighty low! I have been using this Ford dealer for years and they have always been fair I thought.

I called my local dealer and they quoted me $140 today. So, some places may charge 250+, guess it depends on where you live. For $255, they could have least taken you to dinner.

FWIW, the labor manual (Motors) that we use at my dealership calls for "3 hours"hours to swap a set of plugs on a 5.4L F150. they don't differentiate for Lightning S/C or not.

I think my service dept charges about $78 per hour.

this equals about $234 not including any parts, tax on parts, shop charges etc.

and as absurd as it may seem, many dealerships charge anwhere from $8 to $11.00 PER PLUG for platinum motorcraft plugs.

also, if you don't buy the plugs at the dealership, the 12month/12K mile warranty on the repair may not be honored. generally, the warranty will only be honored if a part can be claimed as the failed part, so if your original reciept for the plug installation doesn't show any parts (the plugs) because you supplied your own, then you may be out of luck.

HOWEVER, as is often the case the policies will vary from dealer to dealer and from day to day.

I can remember one specific instance of a Navigator where the customer supplied his/her own "Bosch +4" plugs, and 6 or 8 months later, one launched itself and the dealership covered a new cylinder head even though the parts had not been purchased there, and the vehicle was WAAAAY out of warranty.

unfortunately, there's no 100% guarantees in this game.

hope this helps.

later,
chris
